PUTRAJAYA: The top PKR leadership must ensure the unity of the party, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The party deputy president was asked about his meeting with Sarawak PKR leaders who travelled to Kuala Lumpur on Nov 20 in support of him after his invitation to launch the PKR Youth convention on Dec 6 was rescinded.

The 32 Sarawak PKR leaders had signed a statement supporting state PKR leader Baru Bian's bid to cancel the state party convention scheduled on Nov 23, asking PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to step in to solve the party chaos.

"Cancelling the Sarawak state convention was the decision of the PKR state leadership. The decision taken was a collective decision in the wake of the latest development (to rescind the invitation to me to officiate the PKR Youth convention).

"They wanted the leadership at national level to ensure the unity of the party," said Azmin.

He also said that he thanked 21 of the 25 PKR Youth elected members who signed a statement insisting that he launch the event.

"They were elected by the party congress and we need to respect that. Certainly I appreciate what they are doing. I will certainly consider the decision by PKR Youth (who wants me to officiate their convention)," said Azmin.

He was speaking to the media after attending a soft launch of the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here on Thursday (Nov 21).

PKR has been hit by chaos over the rescission of invitation to Azmin, but the national top leadership had stated that the decision was because of Azmin's late response.

Azmin had claimed that it was an attempt to silence him from speaking to party members.
