KUCHING: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's proposed non-partisan government has been welcomed by the three Sarawakian MPs who have quit PKR.

In a joint statement, Baru Bian, Ali Biju and Willie Mongin said the interim prime minister's announcement reinforced their stance that reconciliation and healing were paramount.

"We reiterate our fullest support for this old wise man to lead the nation as our economy is getting a battering by global issues and now, our country's political impasse," they said Wednesday (Feb 26).

They said Dr Mahathir's formula of inclusivity was a new direction for the country.

"The best and wisest way forward is to rise up from this quagmire of instability and build bridges across all sides.

"Reconciliation is not just a fine word but real action that we must all take in order to bring healing to this nation now," they said.

They asked for continued trust from their supporters, saying their priority was to stabilise the political situation.

They also urged the public not to believe everything they read online but wait to hear the truth from them.

Dr Mahathir said he would try to establish a non-partisan administration which priotised the national interest.

"Right or wrong, my opinion is that politics and party politics have to be put aside for the time being," he said in a televised address Wednesday afternoon.
