IPOH: The price hike in daily goods will impact the growth of hardcore poor children, says Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

The Perak PKR chief urged the government to plan for various programmes to help these children so their development will not be stunted.

"It is a concern as the price hike will impact the hardcore poor children in the city and rural areas.

"Various programmes need to be planned quickly to focus on the children's early development to ensure they can enjoy healthy food," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 3).

Farhash Wafa Salvador, who is also PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's political secretary, said the price hike has shocked many people as the nation's economic activities had just reopened and now in recovery phase.

"The price hike is not only causing concerns for consumers, but also affecting traders and wholesalers because they are the ones who buy in bulk and risk huge losses if the items are not sold.

"The government needs to ensure its relevant agencies can closely regulate the marketing and distribution of goods under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act to ensure consumers are protected," he said.

"It is also to ensure no one will take advantage by monopolising the prices in the market.

"The government also needs to review its existing policies on food security so that it could be more inclusive and holistic," he added.
