KUALA LUMPUR: After over two decades of waiting to hold Putrajaya's top post, Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders today congratulated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister.
DAP chairman and Bagan member of parliament Lim Guan Eng congratulated Anwar in a Twitter post, saying that he was proud he see Anwar installed as the 10th Prime Minister today.
"Congratulations to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim. For a better Malaysia. Proud of you my prime minister," he wrote.
Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad described Anwar's appointment as a "new light to shine Malaysia" ahead.
His colleague from Parti Amanah Negara Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the people of Perak are proud to have a prime minister who represents the Tambun parliamentary seat in the state.
"On behalf of Perak PH, I would like to congratulate Anwar who was announced as the 10th prime minister by the palace.
"Surely the people of Perak are also proud to have a prime minister from Perak. We pray for the best," he said.
Former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming said "the challenge of forming a stable and inclusive government for all Malaysians begins today. All the best to Anwar and the leaders who are supporting him."
Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub expressed confidence that the new government that will be formed would focus on the people's welfare.
"Alhamdulillah. The government that will be formed will focus on restoring the country's economy and taking care of the welfare of the people."
Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said after a long wait, Anwar has finally made it to Putrajaya, adding that under his leadership, Malaysia would enter a better phase.
"After 24 years of waiting, the journey to Putrajaya is confirmed. Anwar is now prime minister and Malaysia will now enter a new era filled with harmony."
Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim,in his tweet, described Anwar's appointment today as a "national reconciliation day".
"The son of Cerok To'kun and the Bukit Mertajam High School boy. We in Bukit Mertajam feel proud and moved.
"Thank you and congratulations to all for the hard work, regardless of our political parties. This is a National Reconciliation Day."
Former Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran said Anwar had always been the people's choice to lead the nation in the right direction.
"A big thank you to all media that have been steadfast in their duty to report all events, twists and developments."
Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in a short tweet wrote: "Congratulations Sir, together we will make Malaysia a better place."
