KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) continues to give back to society by sharing the joy of Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration with several nursing homes in Selangor, bringing festive cheers and goodies to more than 100 senior citizens and the less fortunate recently.

A group of MRL volunteers led by its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team visited the Pusat Jagaan Mahmudah Malaysia in Semenyih and the My Aged Care in Petaling Jaya where they carried out activities such as board games, sing-along, colouring sessions and tossing of yee sang with the nursing homes' occupants.

MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said the company will actively promote CSR activities in line with the nurturing of the "Malaysia Madani" concept in the community, adding that MRL is committed to reach out, especially to the elderly, less fortunate and needy that reside across the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) states.

"MRL hope the assistance provided to Pusat Jagaan Mahmudah Malaysia and My Aged Care may bring festive delight to the occupants.

"We will endeavour to continue with the practice of visiting nursing homes, retirement homes, charity homes and orphanages during festive seasons in a bid to strengthen care and compassion among various communities," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the MRL volunteers also took the opportunity to interact and lift festive spirits, especially among the elderly and those with disabilities at the nursing homes.

They also prepared lunch for the occupants and caregivers of the nursing homes which consisted of local delicacies that met their dietary requirements.

In ushering the CNY with its tradition of sharing, MRL handed out angpow packets and mandarin oranges to the occupants of the nursing homes as a gesture of good luck.

MRL also presented food aid and essential items such as cooking oil, biscuits, beverages, adult diapers and washing detergents which were required by the nursing homes.

During the visit, MRL volunteers were also briefed by the management committee of the respective nursing homes on the overall well-being of the occupants as well as the nursing facilities and personal care services that were available to the elderly and those with disabilities.

MRL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Minister of Finance (Incorporated), is the project and asset owner of the ECRL.

The 665-kilometre ECRL will traverse the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang before linking the Klang Valley on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
