KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today has given a stern warning against any quarters playing and riding on Islam.

The premier said such an act would not be tolerated after Aug 12 (after state polls), and action will be taken against them.

"Yes, we let it slide. However, there will be no more after Aug 12.

"I have discussed this with (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) and (Datuk Seri) Fadillah (Yusof)

"I have presented it to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah) and the Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah).

"I said this is not a matter of politics and I don't care who they are supporting because it is their right, but the act of riding on religion, playing with God's law (hukum Allah) and simply punishing or slandering others, or labelling others as infidels for not supporting them.

"I want to tell this; that this prime minister, if you (continue to) support, will not tolerate this nonsense," he said in his speech at the Grand Finale Kita held tonight.

Anwar said Malaysia must be a safe country for all races and its people must be treated equally.

"Yes, Islam is the religion of the Federation; we will increase the understanding of Islam; we will further strengthen Bahasa Melayu; we will guarantee the rights of the Malays and Bumiputera, as well as to honour (muliakan) the Malay Rulers.

"(But) listen carefully, do not insult Anak Malaysia of any races. Everyone, regardless of race, is all our families and must be defended," he said.
