GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia will soon have a new task force to deal with increasing instances of cybercrime, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister said the new task force would be supervised by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and involve the police and other related agencies.
"This new entity will have a new set of regulations suitable for the effort to protect the nation's cyberspace," he said during a press conference after the official opening of Kebun Bunga service centre at Mount Erskine here on Saturday (Nov 4).
He said the initiative still being discussed at Cabinet meetings.
Asked when it would be finalised, Saifuddin said the Cabinet needs two to three Parliament meetings next year before forming the task force.
"The process of drafting regulations for this new task force is being processed by the Attorney General's Office," he said.
Earlier Saifuddin attended Kebun Bunga assemblyman Lee Boon Heng service centre's official opening ceremony at Mount Erskine.
During the ceremony, he handed over 100 Deepavali packs to policemen and residents in the constituency.
Also present during the event were state police chief Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, George Town Acting OCPD Supt V. Saravanan and local community leaders.
