KUALA LUMPUR: Mimos Bhd (Mimos) is expected to come up with explainers on the use of the recently launched National Digital Identity or MyDigital ID to allay security concerns raised over the application.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the ministry, together with the agency, will be coming up with a brief explainer video including frequently asked questions (FAQs) pertaining to the application.

"InsyaAllah the MyDigital ID is safe.

"There is a huge difference to the ones (used) by Canada or India which records fingerprints or iris details.

"The (MyDigital ID) system introduced is for the ease of convenience to the public where they only need one login password for different government agencies applications.

"It is also cost saving.

"We have instructed Cybersecurity Malaysia to closely work with Mimos to ensure any threats are nullified," he said after flagging off participants of Runhack: Scam Alert 2023 programme at Bukit Jalil National Stadium here today.

Last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government had appointed Mimos as the implementing agency for the MyDigital ID programme with an initial allocation of RM80 million.

MyDigital ID is a form of digital self-identification and authentication for individuals, intended for use by both the public and private sectors to verify user identities during online transactions.

Without replacing the MyKad system, MyDigital ID serves as a trusted and secure platform, streamlining online identity verification to prevent identity fraud in online transactions.
