PUTRAJAYA: There will be no special public holiday in conjunction with the installation of the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the matter was not discussed during the Cabinet meeting.

"There has been no announcement (on the matter) today, and the next Cabinet meeting will take place after the installation ceremony of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said during a press conference here today.

Fahmi made this statement when addressing social media postings that suggested Jan 31 would be declared a holiday in conjunction with the installation of the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Oct 28.
