KOTA KINABALU: Yayasan Sabah (YS) Group is allocating RM67.4mil in 2024, an increase from RM53.8mil last year, to allow more Sabah youths to further their tertiary studies overseas or in the country, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“The education development agenda in this state has always been prioritised by the state government. Various initiatives have been empowered including for the younger generation from the B40 group that have succeeded in furthering their studies in higher learning institutions,” said Hajiji.

He said this during the breaking-of-fast ceremony with higher learning institution students from Sabah who are currently studying in Peninsular Malaysia, held at Setia Spice Convention Centre, Georgetown in Penang on Monday (March 25).

The event was hosted by Hajiji and was attended by 1,400 undergraduates.

Hajiji added that from 1967 until 2023, the YS Group has provided various assistance through scholarships, grants, and loans for higher education.

“124,141 Sabahan students of various disciplines who studied in or outside Malaysia, have received assistance of RM952.2mil in total,” he said.

Speaking to the attending undergraduates, he said that Sabah and the country would need their participation to elevate the progress of the state and country upon the completion of their studies.
