Anwar: Malaysian economy shows minimal impact amid Middle East tensions

KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): The escalating tensions in the Middle East, triggered by Iran's barrage of missiles and drones at Israel over the weekend, have had only a minimal impact on the Malaysian economy thus far, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Pointing to the slight dip in the opening of Bursa Malaysia on Monday morning, Anwar noted that this reflected regional trends.

"Nevertheless, the government will continue to monitor this situation very closely and take proactive measures to ensure the security, welfare, and well-being of all Malaysians. The interests of the country will be our primary consideration," said Anwar in a statement on Monday, following his chairing of a special meeting by the National Security Council to discuss the grave situation in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Anwar also voiced support for Iran's decision to launch a drone attack on Israel in response to the attack on the Islamic Republic's embassy in Damascus, deeming it a "legitimate act".

However, Anwar expressed satisfaction with the assurances given by the Iranian government that, barring another attack by Israel, the drone attack would be its only reaction.

"We join all of the civilized world in urging the Zionist Israeli regime not to further aggravate an already extremely tense situation. There are clear signs indicating that the world has no desire to see a worsening of the situation," he said.

Anwar emphasised that the key to resolving this issue is the just and immediate resolution of the inhumane situation in Gaza, urging full global attention to be devoted to it without distractions.

"There must be a durable ceasefire that will enable the passage of humanitarian aid. In this connection, Malaysia’s latest contribution of 100 containers is expected to leave Malaysia on April 27," Anwar added.

PMX obviously doesnt know much about world economy. Every thing is interlinked. Maybe he can read old newspapers what happened when Russian invaded Ukraine? Markets will definately react as Middle East supply most of the world's oil demand.

Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Finance Minister of Indonesia, is highly respected at home and abroad. As well as being named the world’s best finance minister in 2006 by Euromoney, she regularly features on Forbes’ annual rankings of the world’s most powerful women. And her popularity shows no signs of waning: when she was reappointed for President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo’s second term in 2019, the Indonesian rupiah strengthened by 0.6 percent.

“Investors appear to trust that she can run a tight ship,” Nicholas Antonio Mapa, Senior Economist at ING, told World Finance. After all, it takes nerves of steel to champion economic reform with as much commitment as Sri Mulyani – particularly when reform means undoing decades of corruption.

That deep fake reformist has even failed to set the nation to sail in the right direction!!

He has failed to steer the country in the right direction.

1. **Economic Performance:** Despite promising initiatives, the economic growth rate remains below potential, with persistent issues like high household debt and limited job creation in high-value sectors. This indicates a lack of effective economic strategies.

2. **Corruption and Governance:** Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index reflects ongoing concerns about corruption levels in Msia, suggesting that anti-corruption efforts have not been successful in rooting out systemic issues.

3. **Social Inequality:** Income inequality and disparities in access to quality education and healthcare persist, indicating a failure to address fundamental social issues that impact the well-being of citizens.

4. **Infrastructure Development:** While there have been infrastructure projects, delays, cost overruns, and allegations of mismanagement have tarnished the government's track record in delivering key infrastructure projects efficiently.

5. **Environmental Sustainability:** Challenges such as deforestation, pollution, and inadequate environmental regulations point to a lack of comprehensive policies for sustainable development.

6. **International Relations:** Tensions or strained relations with neighboring countries or major trading partners could signify a failure in diplomatic efforts or strategic foreign policy planning.

Worse still....this pmx fails the nation and every msian in 1001 ways. A leader's first duty and primary skill should indeed revolve around their ability to effectively resolve conflicts and intervene swiftly in crises. Here's why:

1. **Maintaining Stability:** A leader's foremost responsibility is to ensure stability within their domain, whether it's a community, organization, or nation. Conflict resolution and crisis intervention directly contribute to this stability by addressing issues before they escalate.

2. **Protecting People:** Leaders are entrusted with the safety and well-being of their constituents. Promptly resolving conflicts and intervening in crises protects people from harm, whether physical, emotional, or social.

3. **Preserving Trust and Confidence:** Effective conflict resolution and crisis intervention build trust and confidence in a leader's ability to handle challenging situations. This trust is crucial for maintaining support and cooperation during both calm and turbulent times.

4. **Preventing Escalation:** Unresolved conflicts and unaddressed crises can quickly escalate, leading to more significant problems and potentially catastrophic outcomes. Leaders who excel in conflict resolution and crisis management can nip these issues in the bud.

5. **Fostering Collaboration:** By skillfully resolving conflicts, leaders can foster collaboration and unity among diverse groups. This collaboration is essential for progress, innovation, and sustainable development.

6. **Enhancing Reputation:** Leaders known for their adeptness in handling conflicts and crises gain a positive reputation not only locally but also internationally. This reputation can attract investment, partnerships, and goodwill, benefiting the entire community or nation.

7. **Promoting Growth:** When conflicts are resolved efficiently and crises are managed effectively, it creates an environment conducive to growth and prosperity. People feel secure and motivated to contribute their best efforts towards common goals.
