KUALA KUBU BARU: A Pas leader's recent scrutiny of her vernacular school education prompted a swift response from Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Pang Sock Tao in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"As the people's representative, there is no need to play up this issue and we should respect parents' choices for their children.

"Academic achievement is not an issue I want to play with. For me, my academic success is a testament to my parents' hard work in providing the best education for me.

"Sending children to any type of school is the choice of every parent, and I believe all parents want the best for their children," she said when met after a meet-and-greet session with the Orang Asli community at Kampung Tun Razak.

Pang was asked to comment on Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who had shifted his 'attack' to the fact that she attended a vernacular school.

Pang stressed that her decision to share her Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results was because she was challenged to do so.

Earlier today, Pang put the dispute raised by Fadhli regarding her educational background and academic qualifications to rest.

Pang took to her Facebook account to share her UPSR and SPM examination result slips.

The result slips showed she scored four A+, three As, and three A-'s in her SPM examination in 2010 when she was a student at SM Chung Hua Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan.

The former press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming scored straight As in her UPSR examination in 2005.

Fadhli, in a post on his Facebook yesterday, challenged Pang to reveal her primary and secondary education status.

"Where did you sit for your UPSR and SPM examinations? I am sure this is interesting to know."

Fadhli raised such a question after critics disputed the academic qualifications of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the by-election, Khairul Azhari Saut.

Khairul Azhari, however, maintained that his university qualifications were genuine.

The Election Commission (EC) fixed May 11 for the by-election following Lee's death on March 21.

Nomination begins today (Sat) while early voting is fixed for May 7.

The state seat would be contested by Pang, Khairul, Hafizah Zainudin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and Nyau Ke Xin, who is contesting as an independent.
