JOHOR BARU: The Johor state government is committed to positioning the state as a leading sports tourism destination by organising a variety of internationally recognised events scheduled for this year, said State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship, and Cooperative Development Committee chairman, Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

"The state government, through the State Sports Council and KPRJ Sports, will also organise international cycling events," he said, adding that the Ironman endurance race in Desaru, Kota Tinggi, is scheduled for this month.

"Unlike previous years when these cycling events were held in conjunction with Letape Malaysia, this time, they will be solely organised by the state government for the first time," he said at a press conference after the 10th Johor Malaysian Youth Movement (YMM) charity run here today.

Also present was YMM President Brevia Pan Woon Shien.

He further mentioned that they would be organising the 21KM Johor Marathon in August, expected to be held in collaboration with the Johor Baru City Council and Iskandar Puteri City Council.

The YMM Charity Run, with approximately 1,000 participants, successfully raised RM48,000 in registration fees, which will be allocated for charitable initiatives across Johor, as well as for volunteer training programmes. - Bernama
