PETALING JAYA: Former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmi Ali had his statement recorded over leaked classified Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) documents and not over his remarks in the Selangor state assembly, say police.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that Azmin was called up to have his statement recorded at the Shah Alam district police headquarters under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"It is to assist the investigation under Section 203A of the Penal Code for disclosure of information.

"The investigation was started following a police report lodged on March 14 by a state development officer, who claimed that classified documents were leaked and several incorrect pieces of information were revealed to the public. He feared that it might tarnish the reputation of the corporation," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 21), adding that police have recorded statements from 15 individuals.

"He was not called up over his remarks in the Selangor state assembly on Feb 28," he said.

Azmin, who is Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief, had claimed that he was being investigated by the police over his recent remarks in the Selangor state assembly.

"I have instructed my lawyers to file for a judicial review on the wrongful act of the police in issuing the notice. I am also calling to stop any current or future acts of investigating or taking action against any state assemblyman," said Azmin during a press conference at Perikatan's headquarters on Monday (May 20).
