KUALA KUBU BARU: Umno has advised Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to not become a hypocritical politician by disparaging former allies when they are no longer on the same page.

Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the Pas president should instead be a mature political leader who prioritises the ideology of struggle.

"If I speak too much, people get angry with me but as a political leader, the most important thing is not to be hypocritical. Before, there was love (between Umno and Pas), now there's not. It can't be like that.

"Don't be inconsistent, why was it possible before?

"In my opinion, politicians need to be professional and (give their) support based on ideology. If we give support or not, because of intimidating elements, the 3Rs... for me, it's not a mature political approach.

"Political maturity is about ideology. However, at this time, the state assembly is about services and for me, it's easy," she said after visiting an Orang Asli village here.

Previously, it was reported that Hadi in a speech for Perikatan Nasional in Batang Kali last night, reminded Umno members and supporters in Selangor not to repeat the mistake of losing political power as what happened in Singapore.

He claimed that DAP, an offshoot of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore, is an extreme and excessive party that wants to seize political power subtly and cunningly, and this could lead to chaos in the country.

Recalling history, the Marang member of parliament had said that political parties before independence, namely Pas, Umno, MCA and MIC, could negotiate to settle several important matters in the establishment of Malaysia.
