KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government will fully cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into a failed tube well project in the state.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the state government would not interfere with MACC's investigation.

"The state government will leave it to MACC to investigate this case fairly.

"At the same time, we hope people will not speculate about the case," he said.

Yesterday, MACC detained two former senior officers of a state water concessionaire and two owners of a company that acted as the consultant for the tube well project to assist in its investigation into the case.

The four, aged 40 to 60, were arrested in the state capital here between 7am to 10am.

The arrests followed the New Straits Times report on the plight of Kota Baru villagers struggling with water supply.

Following the arrests, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that it was investigating 10 tube well projects by state-owned water company Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd that failed to function.

He said the projects, worth some RM300 million, were carried out by the water concessionaire between 2008 and 2015.

He said 28 tube wells were constructed under the horizontal collector well and the repair of water treatment plants projects.

Azam also confirmed the arrest of four individuals in relation to the investigation into the failed tube well project.

Today, MACC brought the four to court to obtain a remand order against them.
