FEW sectors in the intricate landscape of global industries hold as much promise and significance as the semiconductor industry.

With technological advancements propelling the world towards innovation at an unprecedented pace, semiconductors have emerged as the backbone of modern technology by driving everything from smartphones to smart cities.

As the demand for electronic devices continues to surge, the semiconductor industry stands poised to become a trillion-dollar juggernaut in the coming years. The Southeast Asia (SEA) region and especially Malaysia has established itself as a crucial hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

With a combination of strategic geographical location, a skilled workforce and supportive government policies, SEA countries have become prime destinations for semiconductor giants looking to expand their manufacturing capabilities.

Collaboration, knowledge-sharing and support among players within the SEA ecosystem will play a key role in further developing the semiconductor industry in this region.

Given this landscape, SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024, the industry’s premier global electronics manufacturing and supply chain event will feature Sourcing Malaysia @ SEMICON SEA 2024 which is deemed a dynamic platform for business match-making and collaboration within the electronics ecosystem.

The three-day showcase from May 28 to 30 at MITEC Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will serve as a nexus where local electronics players can engage, network and explore potential collaborations with global players to drive business growth and innovation.

In total, the platform is expected to bring together over 20 buyers from around the world with pre-arranged meetings led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

On the same note, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (MRANTI) is supporting the event by coordinating the participation of 25 Malaysian tech companies.

Sectors that will be in focus include electrical & electronics (E&E), drones, electric/autonomous vehicles and medical technology.

Themed Boosting Agility and Resiliency of the Global Electronics Supply Chain, SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024 will delve into critical areas driving the semiconductor industry which include sustainability, smart manufacturing and workforce development.

The event will feature more than 500 exhibiting companies and more than 1,000 booths, doubling participation from last year’s exhibition and conference.

“Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion @ SEMICON SEA 2024 provides a platform for Malaysian companies to connect with global leaders, fostering collaboration that will not only propel individual businesses but also fortify the entire ecosystem, driving sustainable growth and advancement,” commented of SEMI Southeast Asia president Linda Tan.

Meanwhile, MATRADE CEO Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz expects Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion @ SEMICON SEA 2024 serves as a strategic gateway for Malaysian businesses to access global markets and forge meaningful partnerships.

“By enabling companies to showcase their capabilities and connect with industry leaders, we aim to support them in carving new frontiers, driving economic growth, and strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor landscape,” he added. - May 23. 2024
