KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan will soon explain more about the implementation of diesel subsidy rationalisation, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I was just giving an overview. The big picture will come later,” said Anwar during a press conference after attending an event at Berjaya Times Square on Sunday (May 26).

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin recently criticised Anwar for not revealing when the subsidy rationalisation would be implemented for all fuel.

On May 25, Hamzah also said Anwar should visit wet markets around the capital to survey the increase in goods prices that are affecting the public.

Responding to Hamzah, Anwar said he had checked the prices of goods at markets on a weekly basis.

“Each time I was there, I asked about the prices of goods, and I also spoke about their problems,” said Anwar.

“It seems that he (Hamzah) was trying to avoid answering allegations that his party is supporting rich tycoons and foreigners. He has yet to respond to that,” he added.

Last week, Anwar announced that the diesel subsidy rationalisation would be implemented involving only consumers in Peninsular Malaysia.

It will involve 10 types of public transport vehicles and 23 types of goods transportation vehicles under the diesel subsidy control system.
