JOHOR BARU: The investigation into the Ulu Tiram police station is being conducted under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) to give authorities more time to complete their investigation, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said this was based on the magnitude of the incident.

"So are seven days or ten days enough? The police needed more time to complete their investigation.

"We cannot take this matter lightly and will use all Acts allowed under the law," he said in a press conference after the special inter-agency meeting on the Johor Causeway and Second-Link congestion issue at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar on Monday (May 27).

Saifuddin was asked if using Sosma to arrest five suspects in the Ulu Tiram attack case was justified.

He said the murder of policemen is a serious matter.

"We have to be vigilant and sensitive because cases like this will have an impact on the safety, economy and livelihood of our people in general," he said.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said that the police had rearrested the five suspects under Sosma.

On May 17, two policemen were killed and another injured at the Ulu Tiram police station. The attacker who was also shot dead.
