KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has monitored egg prices at 1,828 premises with the deployment of 2,200 officers nationwide.

Datuk Azman Adam, the ministry's enforcement director-general, said that the officers were deployed to ensure traders comply with the new ceiling prices for chicken eggs.

"Over a seven-day period following the reduction in market prices for chicken eggs, we found that no parties were selling above the set price.

"However, the ministry took action against six traders who failed to display the pink price tags, and two cases for not displaying price tags at all," he said in a statement.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a reduction of 3 sen in egg prices.

The 10 sen per egg subsidy is expected to cost the government RM100 million.

Last year, the government spent nearly RM1 billion on egg subsidies.

Following the latest price revision, Grade A, B, and C eggs are priced at 42 sen, 40 sen, and 38 sen respectively.
