NIBONG TEBAL: Construction of a road connecting the Bukit Panchor Industrial Area with Jalan Bukit Panchor here is ahead of schedule and expected to be completed by February, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Works Minister said the project is at almost 75% completion and is 45 days ahead of schedule.

"The contract cost of this project is RM11.26mil," he told a press conference here on Thursday (June 27).

Ahmad said the project will connect the Bukit Panchor Industrial Area in Nibong Tebal with state road P146, Jalan Bukit Panchor.

He said at present, industrial vehicles use residential routes and Kampung Ladang Kerian and this raised safety concerns among the residents.

The new road will have a speed limit of 60kph, he said.

"It can connect residents from Sungai Kechil, Sungai Bakap, Taman Ilmu and Universiti Sains Malaysia Transkrian to the town of Nibong Tebal," he added.

The project also involves the construction of a 1.2km stretch of road, a new intersection and drainage system, as well as the upgrading of the existing intersection.

Ahmad also spent about an hour visiting the site and was briefed on the progress by engineers and contractors.
