PRO-Pakatan Harapan (PH) netizens have apparently ‘rubbished’ the findings by Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (MASA) which claimed that 58% of its respondents were dissatisfied with the performance of the unity government led by the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

They expressed doubt over the credibility, independence and transparency of the findings given the think tank which was founded in January 2019 under the auspices of seventh premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his successor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been somehow ‘opposition inclined’ in recent times.

This is given that twice former premier Dr Mahathir has openly declared his support for PN which is under the chairmanship of Muhyiddin who is also the Bersatu president.

Towards this end, PH backers cast doubt about the accuracy of findings by Institut MASA which was originally commissioned by the government to author and develop the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 plan as the new socio-economic plan for Malaysia

The Institut MASA findings which was cited by pro-opposition Malay language news portal MalaysaGazertte further attributed the high level of dissatisfaction to the Madani government’s failure to resolve various issues of concern.

“The lowest level of satisfaction was recorded among the Malays at 27% followed by the Indians (38%) and the Chinese (48%),” revealed the think tank. “In relation to this, 52% of respondents felt that the country’s economy was getting worse while only 45% thought of the opposite.”

Added the think tank: “Malay respondents made up the majority who stated that the country’s economy has deteriorated the most at 56% followed by Chinese (49%) and Indians (47%)

“Meanwhile, only 39% of Malay respondents stated that they were satisfied with Anwar’s performance as PM compared to 74% of Chinese respondents and 60% of Indian respondents. Overall, 53%t were satisfied with Anwar’s performance as PMX.”.

The study was conducted by Institut MASA on 1,920 respondents aged 18 and above in Peninsular Malaysia via phone interview from April 30 to May 26. - June 30, 2024
