SEPANG: Malaysians who were stuck in Bangladesh amid its escalating deadly protests have arrived safe and sound in the country on Tuesday evening.

A total of 123 Malaysians, including 80 students arrived at KLIA2 at 5pm.

Their family members and media personnel have also gathered at the arrival hall of KLIA2 since 3pm in anticipation of their arrival.

A press conference is expected to be held by Wisma Putra shortly.

On Monday (July 22), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said Malaysia would evacuate all of its students amid the “worrying” protests in Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, tens of thousands of Bangladeshi students held demonstrations after the courts ruled to reimpose quotas on government jobs which were repealed in 2018.

Following this, the Bangladesh government closed all public and private universities on Saturday (July 20), at the height of the protest.

On Saturday, the Bangladesh government imposed a nationwide curfew in response to the increasing violence and demonstrations.

Over 100 people have been killed since the riots broke out on July 16 (Tuesday).
