LANGKAWI: Langkawi has welcomed over 1.5 million local and international tourists by the end of the second quarter of this year, says Langkawi district officer Mohamad Subhi Abdullah.

This figure indicates that Langkawi is on track to reach its target of three million tourist arrivals by year-end.

"By June, we had already welcomed 1.5 million local and international tourists, which is half of our target of three million visitors by year-end," he said.

"With three more international events on the horizon, including the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi in September, Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Langkawi 2024 in October, and the Langkawi International Half Marathon 2024 in December, we are confident of reaching that target," he told reporters after attending the Pulau Rebak Social Regatta 2024 closing ceremony yesterday.

Subhi said the two-day Pulau Rebak Social Regatta 2024 which concluded yesterday, saw participation from 22 teams from seven countries, namely South Africa, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand, France, Germany, Singapore, and the host, Malaysia.

The Enavigo team from the United Kingdom, led by Steve Maine, won the Monohull category, while the Dark Horse team from New Zealand, led by Nigel Signal, dominated the Multihull category.
