PUTRAJAYA: The candidate for the next Chief Secretary to the Government is expected to be named later today, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the Prime Minister Office will issue a statement to announce the replacement for the current Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, this evening.

“Tan Sri Zuki will end his service on Aug 11, and he has long served the country. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Mohd Zuki has shown an immense level of professionalism and commitment throughout his service.

“Since his last day is on a weekend, today is Mohd Zuki’s last day serving as the Cabinet secretary. The Cabinet expressed our best wishes to him,” the government spokesman said in a weekly press conference here Wednesday (Aug 7).

Fahmi, however, did not reveal the exact timing of the announcement. Mohd Zuki, 62, has held the post of Chief Secretary to the Government since Dec 31, 2019.

He was reappointed to the post on a contract basis for two years on Aug 11, 2022.

The question of who will replace Mohd Zuki has been raised among the media recently as he will be retiring after serving his two-year contract as Chief Secretary to the Government this week.

While the names of several senior civil servants have been circulated as potential candidates, the Prime Minister, however, remains tightlipped, saying that he has yet to identify the right person.
