Economy Ministry says will fully support civil service reforms

KUALA LUMPUR: The Economy Ministry will fully support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's public service reforms

In a statement on Sunday (Aug 18) it said that it welcomes his plan to reform the public service to increase its productivity and efficiency.

"We welcome his wishes to reform the public service with a special emphasis on aspects of productivity and service efficiency.

"Civil servants are always ready to make changes, a paradigm shift in terms of behavior and thinking so that ultimately the country's competitiveness can be increased. The government is committed to reforming public services," it said.

The ministry then said it would ensure that this desire is translated at the ministerial and government agency levels as well.

On Friday (Aug 16) during the during the 19th Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam, Anwar said while salaries in the civil service have been raised by between 7% and 15%, the first pay hike in 12 years, it comes with conditions to bring about major reforms in Putrajaya.

“We hope this will motivate the civil service to strive for their best for the nation,” he said.
