KOTA KINABALU: Traders have been advised not to take advantage of the recent decision by the government to raise civil servants’ wages by hiking their prices.

National Consumer Foundation Sabah chairman David Chan issued the appeal to business owners across the country, saying he was concerned that some might exploit the salary increment.

The last thing anyone needs now was a price hike at a time when Malaysians were already grappling with the rising cost of living, he said.

“This increment is a step towards helping civil servants cope with current economic challenges – it is not a signal for businesses to inflate prices.

“Please exercise ethical business practices and refrain from unjustifiably raising prices of household essentials,” he said yesterday.
