With salary hike underway, shouldn’t Malaysian taxpayers have the right to name & shame errant civil servants?

NOW that it has been official civil servants can look forward to a 7%-15% pay raise depending on their seniority/category, it makes valid sense for a netizen to moot the idea that the former should have tneir identification detail close to them - either on their uniform or on their desk to facilitate their identification in the event they slack in their job.

This followed a viralled video by TikToker @Rossneeda who shared her confrontation with a front counter female Immigration Department officer last Thursday (Aug 15) after watching her behaving rudely to two women who are believed to be Indian nationals.

When @Rossneeda ticked off the woman for her impoliteness, the officer apparently chided @Rossneeda for being a ‘busy body’ before she rebutted the officer by reminding her that she was being paid “to sit at the counter regardless of how many customers she has to handle” lest she should leave her job if she feels that she is unfit to render proper customer service.

Thankfully, an investigation is now underway by the Immigration Department, according to Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

“I salute you for daring to reprimand the staff of the Putrajaya Immigration Branch … to staff there, be careful because many will pay attention to you after this,” tweeted 요시로 왕자 (@Cool_Wannabe82) who posted @Rossneeda’s unpleasant experience on the X platform.

This prompted a commenter to point out that “all government officials should have their unit number next to their uniform!” to make underperforming or unruly staff easily recognisable for viral purpose.

Another commenter called for action against the errant front counter staff at the Putrajaya Immigration Department.

But this is unlikely the case as the said staff would only be likely transferred to the “back desk” or given a slap on the wrist not to repeat the behaviour.

Another commenter observed that front counter or customer service staff should take a leaf from their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) counterparts who are mostly courteous.

As one commenter sarcastically put it, the Immigration front counter officer might have lost her cool as her “unofficial coffee break” had been disrupted by the sudden surge in crowd that day. - Aug 21, 2024
