KUALA LUMPUR: The federal territories mufti's office will summon Ibrahim Mat Zin, widely known as Raja Bomoh, for performing a ritual in Jalan Masjid India where an Indian tourist had fallen into an 8m-deep sinkhole last Friday.

Free Malaysia Today quoted Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar as saying that Ibrahim's actions had caused public distress and could lead to misunderstandings about Islam.

"I have requested the federal territories mufti's office to summon Ibrahim soon," Na'im said.

Ibrahim is currently being monitored by the mufti's office, according to Section 129 of the Syariah Criminal Procedure Act (Federal Territories) 1997, due to his history of performing rituals.

According to media reports, Ibrahim visited the sinkhole site and sprinkled what he claimed to be special water sourced from the bottom of a waterfall in Perak.

His actions have drawn widespread criticism, with many saying that such rituals contradicted Islamic teachings and brought embarrassment to Malaysia.

He first gained notoriety in 2014 when he performed a ritual involving coconuts at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport shortly after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

In 2017, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) declared his rituals as haram.

Ibrahim was also charged under Section 7(a) of the Syariah Criminal Offenses Act (Federal Territories) 1997 for insulting Islam that year.
