KUCHING: Sarawak is developing a dashboard system (data visualisations) to measure the effectiveness of business events in the state, says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The state Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the dashboard would monitor, validate, report and record the long-term efficacy of business events.

"The dashboard allows business event planners to track their impact in Sarawak.

"We plan to launch the legacy impact dashboard by the first quarter of 2025," he told a press conference here on Friday (Aug 30).

Abdul Karim said the dashboard was being developed by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) as part of its collaboration with Business Events Sarawak to conduct two studies on business events' economic and long-lasting effects in the state.

Both parties exchanged a memorandum of agreement on the collaboration on Friday.

Abdul Karim said the study would develop a system for recording and reporting data such as visitor arrivals and revenue generation from business events.

"The state aims for business events and tourism to increase visitor arrivals by 7.5% per annum and contribute 11% to Sarawak’s GDP by 2030," he said.

The study would also analyse the broader impact of business events in areas such as community development, social responsibility, policy influence and investment opportunities.

"We are in the second year of the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025, and this stage is about measuring and verifying event legacies.

"With the research and findings from Unimas, we are going to improve our legacy measurements and be ready for the reporting and communication phase through the dashboard next year," Abdul Karim said.
