PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport aerotrains are set to resume in January 2025, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He added on Monday (Sept 2) that until then, the KLIA feeder bus service will continue as an option for passengers.

This follows a statement on June 18 by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), which said that the Aerotrain Replacement Project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is slated to be completed by Jan 31, 2025.

This is three months is ahead of the project’s original planned completion date,

The airport operator said this expedited timeline was finalised through a contract signed on June 14 between Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang), Alstom Transport Systems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and IJMC-Pestech JV, a joint venture between IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd.

MA Sepang is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MAHB.

MAHB said this advances the original completion date of March 31, 2025, by two months.

"As the project coordination lead, Alstom will oversee the delivery of three new trains, the upgrading of two lines, and the overall comprehensive testing required for safe operations,” it said in a statement.

MAHB said that according to the project’s timeline, the new aerotrains are expected to arrive in Malaysia from China by the end of the third quarter of this year.

"The aerotrains will then undergo commissioning and rigorous testing by the relevant authorities before official operations can commence,” it said.
