BENTONG: Pahang state assembly Deputy Speaker Lee Chin Chen, the representative for Bilut, has been elected as the new state DAP chief, replacing Datuk Leong Ngah Ngah, who chose not to contest.

The committee election, which took place at the Pahang DAP ordinary state convention here yesterday (Sept 1), saw five assemblymen and two members of parliament joining Lee in the state leadership.

Leong, who served six terms as a representative and had helmed the state party leadership since 2015, has been appointed as advisor.

Former 2018 Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat candidate M. Manogaran was reappointed as state deputy chief.

Bentong member of parliament Young Syefura Othman, who served as publicity secretary, was selected as one of the two vice-chairmen with Mentakab assemblyman Woo Chee Wan.

State Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man, who is Ngah Ngah's daughter, was named as the new secretary replacing Lee. She will be assisted by Tan Yee Boon.

Ketari assemblyman Su Keong Siong was named organising secretary while Tanah Rata assemblyman Ho Chi Yang was selected as publicity secretary.

Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui was reappointed as political education director, while Tras assemblyman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji was among the five committee members appointed alongside Go Mong Nging, Soh Tai Yen, Chiang Mei Son and Loh Boon Wei.

Today Lee expressed his appreciation to the committee members and others in the party who had placed their trust in him.

"The new leadership will work to attract more young people to join our struggle, and inject a breath of fresh air into the state DAP."

He expressed his gratitude to Ngah Ngah, who had been serving in politics since the 1980s and had been an important figure in ensuring the Triang seat in Bera remained under DAP since 1999.
