PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively tracking an Immigration Department officer to assist in the investigation involving a syndicate bringing in foreigners at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the male officer on duty at KLIA is believed to have escaped.

However, Azam in a Sinar Harian report said, the officer is still in the country.

"The investigation is ongoing and we are targeting 46 related officers to be called for questioning.

"We need to unravel the problem that happened at KLIA. We have warned the officers many times before, but it's still happening and before it gets worse, we will take immediate action," he said in a special interview session at the MACC Putrajaya Headquarters here on Wednesday (Sept 4).

Meanwhile, Azam also confirmed the confiscation of several vehicles belonging to immigration officers in connection with the case.

He explained that MACC is also actively identifying the mastermind behind this criminal activity.

"We believe the masterminds outside involve foreign suspects, but we are looking for the mastermind here," he said.

MACC through its Op Pump on August 20 held around the Klang Valley, Penang and Kelantan busted a syndicate which brought in foreigners through 'special counters' without immigration inspection.

Among the foreigners brought into the country are from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Nepal.

The syndicate is believed to be masterminded by several law enforcement officers at the entrance of the country by acting as a string of gunpowder.

MACC investigation revealed that the syndicate made more than RM4mil in profits from 2022 to 2024.
