Malaysians promote digital safety on TikTok via #ThinkTwice movement

In conjunction with Digital Literacy Day, TikTok has launched its #ThinkTwice digital safety campaign in Malaysia, encouraging the community to actively promote a safe and positive online environment.

In collaboration with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), All Women's Action Society (Awam) and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (Miasa), the campaign encourages self-regulation and responsible digital behaviour among Malaysians.

The #ThinkTwice initiative aims to make users more mindful of their online actions, urging them to reflect before sharing, commenting or posting content. 

As part of the campaign, TikTok will provide a variety of informative and educational resources, including webinars and a resource hub

This hub will house educational materials on TikTok's Community Guidelines, tips on safety features, non-governmental organisation support channels and inspiring content from top Malaysian creators.

TikTok Malaysia head of public policy Anuar Fariz Fadzil said: "At TikTok, we encourage our users to have the freedom and opportunity to express themselves authentically and creatively in a safe and positive environment.

"Through #ThinkTwice, and in partnership with CMCF, Awam and Miasa, we want to empower Malaysians to take responsibility for their online actions and contribute to a healthier digital community."

CMCF chief executive officer Mediha Mahmood highlighted the importance of self-regulation in the digital space. 

"Through the #ThinkTwice campaign, we urge individuals to be mindful of what they share and respectful in their comments. Our online interactions reflect who we are, and it is our responsibility to set a positive example for others to follow," she said.

The #ThinkTwice campaign also garnered support from several influential Malaysian TikTok creators, including @yimotapir, @ggatorart and @wfsufina. 

@yimotapir, winner of Animation Creator of the Year at the 2024 TikTok Awards, has been using creative animations to raise awareness about TikTok's in-app safety features. 

Other creators, such as @ggatorart and @wfsufina, are also participating in the campaign by promoting responsible online interactions through their educational and creative content.

With World Mental Health Day just around the corner, TikTok will also host a series of LIVE sessions featuring mental health professionals and experts. 

These sessions will address critical topics related to mental health and offer viewers resources to protect their digital well-being.
