TEMERLOH: After years of laying the groundwork, Pas is confident that Perikatan Nasional (PN) will govern the Pahang state government in the 16th general election (GE16).

Party deputy president, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said the east coast state was picked as the venue for its 70th general assembly (muktamar) to send a strong signal that Pahang is set to join four other states - Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis - administered by the Islamic party in GE16.

"PN made a significant leap from eight state seats (won during the 2018 general election) to 17 in the 15th general election... a few seats less to rule Pahang.

"This year's muktamar is held in Pahang to signal Pas is ready to take over and lead the state administration.

"Our success today is due to the efforts put in some 20 to 25 years ago, and the seeds we plant today will show results in the next ten years.

"Congratulations to Pas Youth for engaging and securing the support from young voters, especially those casting their ballots for the first time during the last general election," he told reporters after opening Pas Youth's annual muktamar at the Al-Makmur complex in Kerdau here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim said Pas will continue to work closely with their partners in PN to make further inroads into Pahang and go on to form the next state government.

He said Pas non-Muslim Supporters Wing (DHPP) will play a vital role in helping the party to reach out to non-Muslim voters, especially in constituencies dominated by the unity government assemblymen in Pahang.

During the 13th general election in 2013, Pas only managed to win three seats in Pahang before securing eight in the 14th general election in 2018.

The Pahang unity government consists of 17 Umno representatives, one from MIC, six from DAP and two from PKR.

In comparison, PN has 15 representatives from Pas and two from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
