KLUANG: Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, the Barisan Nasional candidate for Mahkota by-election, is the complete package, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the Chinese-educated Malay businessman carries the Malaysian characteristic, which makes him appealing to the people, particularly the Chinese community.

"First, Syed Hussien has the leadership quality and secondly, in terms of communication, it will not be a problem because he converses well (in Mandarin).

"Syed Hussien, who went to a Chinese vernacular school for primary education, also understands the issues faced by the people as he is also a Kluang Municipal Council councillor," he added.

Dr Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, said this to the media during a walkabout here to campaign for Syed Hussien on Monday (Sept 16).

He said the 40-year-old businessman captures the voters' hearts with his humble character.

"Syed Hussien is a good candidate who has a handsome face and I see him having an advantage of being a person with a rather unique character," he added.

Dr Wee said just a few days into the campaign, feedback from the ground has been positive. He, however, urged the election machinery to continue to work hard in the coming days to ensure victory for Barisan.

He said those involved in the campaign must make sure that the people would come out and vote on the polling day.

"This is a challenge all of us are facing in this by-election. We must work together as one team to make sure that Syed Hussien wins on Sept 28," he added.

The Mahkota seat became vacant following the death of assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.

In the by-election, Syed Hussien is taking on former footballer Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, from Perikatan Nasional.
