KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded Malaysians to remain cautious of the monsoon surge expected to occur from Nov 19 to 23.

He said in a post on X that Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, as well as east Sabah had the potential for continuous heavy rain, based on the Malaysian Meteorological Department’s (MetMalaysia) forecast.

“During this period, the South China Sea is expected to have strong winds and choppy sea conditions.

“I advise everyone to remain aware of the latest weather developments and to obtain accurate information on MetMalaysia’s website and social media or via the myCuaca app,” he said, Bernama reported.

Meanwhile, with the expected heavy rain from November 2024 until March 2025, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has directed to activate disaster control centres, monitor supply chains, and increase storage limits for essential goods.

He said selected retailers and wholesalers under Dedicated District Retailers (DDR) and Dedicated District Wholesalers (DDW), premises are allowed to increase their storage capacity for controlled and essential goods by up to 30% of the usual limit during the season.

“Currently, there are 1,369 premises appointed as DDRs and 635 premises as DDWs nationwide.

Armizan said the appointed retailers and wholesalers will have to inform about the availability of essential goods, especially in flood-prone areas.

“They serve as selected mini-stockholders to supply essential goods following the areas that experienced flooding in the past few days,” he added.

Armizan said KPDN would also conduct engagement sessions with manufacturers and importers of controlled and essential goods with state government agencies involved in flood disaster management.
