KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry is reviewing the Sedition Act to determine if amendments are needed to address offences involving race, religion, and royalty (3R).

Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that the ministry had conducted a study on whether the Sedition Act should be updated to address current issues related to the 3R elements.

"The Home Ministry has conducted a study to assess and review whether amendments to the Sedition Act are necessary to align it with current times and offences involving elements of 3R (race, religion, and royalty)," he said.

In a written response on Wednesday to Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor), who asked about plans to amend the act, Saifuddin said: "Following this study, various engagements with stakeholders have been conducted and are ongoing, particularly concerning laws that can address offences related to matters involving elements of 3R."
