Revised - Ministry now offers 3 Palapar Ring Project Packages

Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) has spilted the Palapa Ring project into three workmanship packages to consider the expansion of regencies / municipalities, efficiency aspect and competition expansion.

The Ministry's Procurement Committee has announced its revised offer on the scope of the project includes the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the Palapa Ring's infrastructure on August 7, 2015.

Initially, the project will be managed by Enterprise Project Implementation of Cooperation between the Government and Business Entities on Backbone network of National Optical Fiber Palapa Ring which only provided two workmanship packages namely the East and West package.

The western package consists of 11 districts / cities in western Indonesia along the 1,823 km (sea and land) with an estimated project value of US $ 65.630 million. While the east packages would cover 40 districts / cities in eastern Indonesia along 6572 km (sea and land) with an estimated project value of US $ 181.110 million.

The revised offer then came out with three packages namely the Western, Central, and East.

West package is covering 5 districts / cities in western Indonesia along 1,122 km (sea) with an estimated project value of US $ 40,392 million.Central package covers 17 districts / cities throughout the western region of premises 1,676 km (sea and land) with an estimated project value of US $ 47.085 million, then the east package will cover 35 eastern districts/cities along the 5,681 km (sea and land) eastern Indonesian region with a project value of US $ 143,182 million.

Before it was revised, the length of Palapa Ring project's optical fiber was 8395 km with a total value of US $ 246.74 million. After revision its fiber length then became 8479 km with the value of the project up to US $ 230.659 million.

The project is targeted to distribute broadband services to end users with a transfer speed of at least 10 Mbps in rural areas and 20 MBps in urban areas. The west and east project package's prequalification process is still ongoing and there are 27 companies who have received the documents. For the central package project's pre-qualification was carried out on August 7 to August 12, 2015.
