Despite recovering from sharp losses in the eleventh hour, the FBM KLCI finished 0.8% lower alongside the regional stockmarkets, ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. Market breadth was depressed with 611 decliners and 225 advancers, while 303 shares finished unchanged. Meanwhile, blue-chip gainers were Genting (+12.0 sen), Astro (+6.0 sen) and Telekom Malaysia (+2.0 sen).
