Working Experience
Ms Cheong has more than 35 years of experience in governance, risk management, compliance and auditing work. She began her career with Ernst and Whinney (now known as Ernst and Young ("EY")) in 1980. She was admitted to the MICPA in 1986 and seconded to the London office of EY for 2 years where she was trained in information system auditing. She continued her career in information system auditing in Malayan Banking Berhad for 2 years and 2 government agencies in Australia for 5 years.
Ms Cheong joined Great Eastern Life Assurance Malaysia Berhad ("GE") as Chief Internal Auditor upon returning to Malaysia from Australia in 1996. In 2001, Ms Cheong was offered the position of Vice President, Strategic Planning and Special Projects to facilitate the formulation of annual business plan, budgets and corporate scorecards of GE to enhance her business knowledge. In 2003, she was appointed as Head, Risk Management of GE and subsequently promoted as Chief Risk Officer in 2009 where she was responsible for governance, risk management, compliance, Business Continuity Management, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and market conduct of GE. She retired from GE in January 2020.
