Looking very strong? What's the news there? Buying over the rights to a quarry operations. Shall continue to hold this excellent stock

Chart wise, the dow is not seeing capitulation volume compared to when in August but prices falling with consistently building volume. This could mean only 2 things, that we have not seen the lows yet or the market has priced this in hence no sudden shocks (as compared to august when china's action was a surprise move)
Either way, there's always a buying opportunity for good stocks, where one has priced a fair value of PE12 or ev/ebit of 12 fair value on their fav stocks. Maybe discount that to pe 8 or ev/ebit of 8to 10 should provide some good reference to start your buying

@icon, I'm a very unsophisticated speculator. I buy on chart breakouts and then a lazy check on its low PE and growing quarterly profits. Nothing spectacular. Thus, you can see me in some of the stocks you hold. I like that you give a wider perspective to your selections. Makes a better conviction
I think it's important how investors view this market panic which will determine their positions. Do they see it as a growth shock or recession? . SnP500 was trading around 15xPE prior to fall, and now it's around 13x.if you think it's a growth shock, then it's near buying levels based on historical growth multiples. If you think a recession is coming, then you wouldn't buy until at least another 10% fall. So, if what's your take?
@moi, currency war is a deliberate attempt to devalue to increase competitiveness. The problem now is structural. Genuine large and real outflows of yuan flight and China seems to be naive in dealing with this issue. You can try to Google effects of yuan devaluation on the US or the world

Yeah I agree with ah sook, at the august bloodbath, and I was staring at paper losses of more than 200k. On the rebound, and not only was all that recovered, they made much more money for me. Sure the good stocks will be battered during a free fall but bounce back they will, and usually with more zest than before

Ah moi, according to the guest speakers, investors believe that China deliberately devalued the yuan to revive their faltering economies. It's fallacy because China is slowing down but not in danger of any recession.
The real reason is because China cannot afford to continue pegging the yuan at a certain rate and had to succumb to the huge market forces of yuan flight. When they did that the first time in Aug, they thought that it'll be enough hence they guided the market that there'll be no more but they did it again this month.
So, be prepared for currency wars though not a deliberately one by other emerging markets. Thus, expect prolonged weakening of regional currencies or at least until oil prices stabilize
It looks like export based and domestic construction companies benefiting from the slew of infra works (provided they are not cancelled - highly unlikely based on comments of a government think tank. Budget cuts expected to affect expenditure slash for all ministries instead) to be a safer bets for the year.

I see now wrong in Mr koon publishing the letters to accentuate the deplorable state of English in our graduates. Even iron lady rafidah has said that tun Razak would turn in his grave at the state of our command of the global currency of communications
Not only their mastery of the language but also their fragile nature. Joey Yap calls the current generation as the strawberry generation. Nice on the outside but a light squeeze not only turns them soft, even the juice gets oozed out.
In my broker's office, there is a nationally sponsored graduate who returned with a degree from the US. Employed as a assistant manager, and he was asked to xerox a few copies of some documents for a meeting with the GM. However, he took an exceptionally long time and when asked why, this was his reply and I'm not joking - I wanted to compare and make sure that the photocopied documents are the same as the original. He's considered an endangered species and left alone in his own space to make the numbers quota

There was a commentary on cnbc yesterday which was very interesting. The guest analyst, and Andy Xie, opined that the bloodbath is not primarily due to a global slowdown but a genuine outflow of yuan in favour of other safer havens resulting in even the US coming up with restrictions on cash purchases of its assets by foreigners. The outflow is so huge that the Chinese government cannot effectively plug it. The net effect is that the yuan will continued to be under tremendous pressure which will then domino to other emerging markets currencies. If China cannot stop this free fall in their currencies, the bear stampede will not stop, and apparently
This brings back memories of Thai financial crisis in 1998. However the difference this time seems to be the governments are willing to let their currencies slide in tandem with little intervention. For discussion purposes, what could be the repercussions of this possible currency free fall and who could be the likely beneficiary companies?
The most obvious ones are export stocks whose primary markets are the US, and and Europe, and where steady growth is still seen.
The losers will obviously be those who are heavily exposed to USD borrowings.

Problem is cpo has retraced from recent highs and also quite a damning article in the star biz today on large stockpiles and the inability of the Malaysian and Indonesians to implement bio palm diesel at a higher blend due to falling oil prices which have made palm prices reactively more expensive. Does that imply that stockpiles will continue to add to a glut putting pressure to prices? Anyway, sold half of my holdings today and wait and see what happens next

That's the point, if Sam stinks like a haunted house, sure $5 or below one could get. But then you ask yourself, will you still buy it when it's at 5 just as will you still get the haunted bungalow even at 400k. It was a sarcastic reply to greatful, rock. Sam is my core holdings and will continue to add unless it emits stench of the haunted foul kind

It's a herd mentality stampede. When the dusts settled, people will then realize that WTF, America and Europe is still growing healthily albeit at a slower pace. And a China slowdown yes, a collapse, Err, probably not and then they will stampede the other way.
Don't forget the buying power of America and Europe is still robust thus those who export to these two economies should continue to be in good stead

They are the leading pre cast concrete products manufacturer and supplier to the construction and infrastructure industries. So, with a slew of projects by the government, they are seen as a major beneficiary.
Although there are talks of budget reviews by the government, it is highly unlikely that it'll affect major infra ones as the construction has a spillover effect to 25 other related industries
In the wake of regional slowdown, domestic consumption is the catalyst for growth

Mr koon, no disrespect but it's a very myopic view to favor one field of study over others, and purely on the basis of remuneration. In fact, on the same basis, corporate finance will even make one much more money than accounting per se.
I'm a parent of a 6 year old kid and I intend to send him to an international school next year because the local education system is a gone case.
However, I've made it clear to his mom that academic excellence is the least of my priority. I want to guide him towards the virtues of language proficiency, effective communications, critical thinking abilities and creativity - life skills that will take him far in life, regardless of whatever profession he chooses.
Thus, don't force our expectations on our children. Let them find their interests and hone that passion because when one has passion , they will pursue the right solutions.
As the Chinese say, every profession has a scholar

Myopic view, Jay. That quarter was symbolic of the lowest average cpo price while cpo prices have recovered handsomely in the December quarter. Expect vast improvement in top line and with their efficiency, translating into the bottom line as well. I'd looking at between 2.80 to 3

As joker has pointed out, the top line drop is due to the poor palm oil prices during the quarter period which inspite of it, they still managed to turn in a better bottom line. Pretty well managed
And with recovering palm oil prices during this quarter, it's a decent bet that they will improve on both top and bottom line in the next result. No reason to sell

You guys are hanging on a hope and a prayer
Back in those days, I still remembered buying rekapacific at $3+. It was Ling Liong Sick's son's company that got embroiled in the Soh Chee wen saga. When it was down to 30 sen and at the risk of suspension due to accounts issues, all we had was to cling on a hope that it will be done right eventually, there's still value in a listed shell, it's still a ling company etc etc
And there you are! More than 10 years later, it's still suspended and because of CDS, you can't even use the scrips to wipe your backside
You don't need to be a hero. Sing frozen song and look for other opportunities or better still, take it as a lesson learnt and reflect on where you have been wrong and vow to try not to repeat the same mistakes again.

It looks more like some aggressive funds having run it up from 5.3 to 8 have decided to take profit . I think it has nothing to do with any perceived dissapointment of non announcement or split. To me, regardless whether they announce one now or later, it doesn't change the fact that the fundamentals and storyline are intact. I'll be queuing low to buy more again.... Fishing time!

Rohank, check out these notes in the accounts.
The Aerospace segment registered an increase in revenue of RM9.7 million; out
of which RM7.6 million was due to the impact from the higher USD/RM during the quarter.
The Group profit before tax for the current quarter was RM20.1 million compared to RM14.9 million
in the preceding quarter. The higher profit of all the operating segments were due to the higher revenue,
higher USD/RM and higher group exchange gain during the quarter.
A company which not only relied on the favorable exchange rate to account for its increase in profit, there were marked increase in revenue as well which shows continued demand for its services. Rare gem indeed.

Well, if you trust the American doom sayers, the main problem now is oil. If this is sustained at prolonged levels, it means many US shale oil producers will go bankrupt. What that means is the expected default on loans and bond issues by these companies will tip to the point where a credit crunch could be effected thereby raising serious liquidity issues.
Then what? QE4? Will it be effective? No one knows. It seems oil must stabilize first
And the Saudis or mid east oil producers are hardly losing money. For them, they just put a straw on the ground and oil flows
