PETALING JAYA: Crude palm oil (CPO) futures crossed above the RM3,000 per tonne mark yesterday, a level not seen since September 2012, bouyed by the weaker ringgit against the US dollar as well as the still tight palm oil inventory situation.

The third-month benchmark CPO contract for Feb touched a high of RM3,089 per tonne before closing RM82 higher at RM2,976 per tonne.

MIDF Research analyst Alan Lim expected CPO prices to remain high trading at RM2,500-RM3,000 per tonne range in the next three months.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 8): Malaysian palm oil futures hit their highest in two years and eight months in early trade on Tuesday, as concerns of declining output and stronger soyoil supported prices.

Benchmark palm oil futures for January on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange rose 1.9% at RM2,843 (US$677) a tonne at the close of trade. It earlier touched RM2,863, its strongest level since March 2014.

Traded volumes stood at 53,195 lots of 25 tonnes each.

"The market is really bullish because of the data," said a futures trader based in Kuala Lumpur, citing a 3.7% decline in October output from the month before, based on numbers from the Malaysian Palm Oil Associatio

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 28): Malaysian palm oil futures were little changed on Friday, aided by bullish sentiment and strong fundamentals, securing their third weekly gain.

Benchmark palm oil futures for January on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange closed the week's trade 0.07% higher at 2,789 ringgit (US$664.52) a tonne. Traded volumes stood at 28,177 lots of 25 tonnes each.

The contract has climbed 2.3% this week, recording its third consecutive weekly gain.

The Malaysian futures contract had on Monday surged to a more than two-year high of 2,822 ringgit on lower output data and an uptrend in Chinese vegetable oils, which also rose to their highest levels in about two years.

Palm oil may retest a resistance at 2,822 ringgit per tonne, a break above which could lead to a gain to the next resistance at 2,852 ringgit, according to Reuters commodities and energy markets technical analyst Wang Tao.

A Kuala Lumpur-based trader said the market was lacklustre on Friday, although overall sentiment was optimistic.

"Palm fundamentals are positive. Generally the market is quite cautious, staying on the sidelines anticipating the ITS and SGS data estimates next Monday," he said, noting that traders were already expecting export numbers for the month of October to fall between 5% and 8%.

"Production is expected to increase marginally and demand remains moderate, so there is no catalyst from there," he added.

Another trader said the market lacked action as traders unwind position for the holiday weekend. He noted external markets such as the Dalian Commodity Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade were holding well, which helped buoy sentiment for palm.

"I don't think there will be much changes to the export figures coming out next week. The market does not think there will be surprises therefore it is drifting sideways," he said of industry data to be released on Monday.

The Chicago Board of Trade's December soybean oil contract rose as much as 0.88%.

On the Dalian, the January soybean oil contract slid as much as 0.06%, while the January contract for palm olein inched up as much as 0.27%.

Palm oil is impacted by movements of related vegetable oils, as they compete for a share in the global edible oils market.

Opportunity to accumulate .. as the property business and plantation should be better for AZRB compare with previous q..

Below is the prospect from previous q:
The Group’s Construction Division remaining order book balance as at the date of this 2nd
Quarter Report stands at RM4.357 billion. We are positive on our prospects of adding to and enhancing the order book. Therefore, the Construction Division is confident to give
continued strong performance in future quarters.

The Oil and Gas Division expects to remain steady despite the continuing prolongation of
weak global oil prices and sentiments. The division also expects increasing contribution from its operations at Tok Bali Supply Base as the port continues to develop and mature.

The Plantation Division expects yields of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to continually improve, thereby generating higher revenue going forward. The division also expects to improve its overall contribution to the Group through increasing yields and stringent cost
controls being implemented. The division has also commenced construction on its maiden palm oil mill which would greatly help the division in delivering desired results to the Group beginning next year.

The Property Division is currently planning and embarking on several residential development projects for launch in 2016 and 2017. Upon the successful launches of these projects, the Property Division will be expected to contribute positively to the Group. As at the date of this report, the division has development projects with an estimated Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM1.4 billion. The facilities management business under the Property Division has started to contribute a steady flow of income upon commencement of the asset management services of IIUM Medical Centre during 2nd quarter of 2016

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 20): Malaysian palm oil futures surged to their highest in five months on Tuesday, recording a third straight session of gains, in response to tight supplies and strength in rival oils.

Benchmark palm oil futures for December on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange surged 1.9% to RM2,693 (US$651) a tonne at the end of the trading day.

It earlier touched an intra-day high of RM2,725, its highest since April 22.

Traded volumes stood at 57,726 lots of 25 tonnes each, higher than the 2015 average of 44,600.

The market is up on tight supplies, said a trader in East Malaysia, adding that rising soyoil on the Chicago Board of Trade and China's Dalian Commodity Exchange also lifted palm

Palm oil output from Malaysia, the world's second-largest producer, is still showing lagging effects of last year's dry weather El Nino, resulting in lower than average crop yields.

Malaysian production in August rose 7.3%, but registered its lowest August levels since 2012.

"Exports were also not too bad," the East Malaysian trader added, referring to export data from cargo surveyors which fell less than expected.

Palm oil shipments from Malaysia fell 11–12% during the Sept. 1–20 period versus the same duration last month.

Traders were expecting a sharper dip after record exports in August of 1.8 million tonnes, according to data from industry regulator the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.

A narrowing spread between palm and rival oilseed soy has shifted some demand to soy, dampening palm shipments in recent weeks. Consumers tend to prefer soyoil for cooking to palm and both compete for a share of the global edible oils market.

Chicago soybeans rose for a fourth straight session as excessive rains in parts of the US delayed harvesting and raised concerns about crop quality.

The Chicago Board of Trade's soybean oil December contract rose 1.6%, while the January soybean oil contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange also gained 3.1%.

Palm oil is expected to rise to RM2,761 per tonne, as it has cleared a resistance at RM2,651, according to Reuters market analyst for commodities and energy technicals Wang Tao.

in general the break even cost is about RM1900, if CPO price is about RM2400 should be considered good profit. I don't think CPO price will touch RM2800 so soon due to present poor economy.. I'm more concerned about the performance of logging business of JTiasa , as I expect CPO price should not lower than RM2200.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures hit a two-month high on Friday, achieving a fourth session of gains in five, due to tight physical supplies of the tropical oil.

Benchmark palm oil futures for October on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange rose 1.7 percent to 2,525 ringgit ($627) per tonne in the evening. The price earlier rose to an intraday high of 2,551 ringgit, its highest levels since June 13.

Palm reached a weekly gain of 4.9 percent, its strongest weekly climb since February.

Traded volumes stood at 73,297 lots of 25 tonnes each at the closing trade, higher than last year's average of 44,600.

"The market is fulfilling the upside trend. Supplies are tight as production isn't coming in," explained a Kuala Lumpur-based trader, attributing the short supplies to lower output due to the El Nino's dry weather effects.

The weather phenomenon, which occurred last year, typically brings scorching heat across Southeast Asia, impacting palm oil yields in the world's largest producers of the tropical oil -- Malaysia and Indonesia -- this year
