Finally Mabel Airlines Capital A Berhad’s first-quarter 2024 is out:
• Record-breaking quarter despite only operating 78% of total fleet:
• Revenue exceeds RM5.2 billion
• Over RM1 billion EBITDA
• Net Operating Profit of RM305 million
• Capital A non-aviation businesses contributes over RM620 million or 12% to total Group revenue with EBITDA margin of 13%
• Year-on-Year Growth: These figures represent an impressive 107% increase in revenue and a 105% increase in EBITDA compared to the same period last year.
• Capital A has been a trailblazer in shaping and transforming the travel industry in Asia, making flying affordable for everyone.
CEO of Capital A, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes' comments on the business outlook:
"As I promised last year, we are returning stronger than before. The record-breaking results, powered by our twin engines of growth in the Aviation Group and Capital A Companies, speak volumes about our resilience and growth potential. In the first quarter alone, we have hit multiple new records that culminated in our best-ever quarterly financial performance. This demonstrates the strength and effectiveness of our diversified ecosystem and the momentum we are building.
The Aviation Group reached historic highs for revenue, EBITDA and ancillary income despite operating with over a fifth of our fleet still grounded. Meantime, Capital A Companies generated a stellar half a billion of revenue and a profitable operating performance in just one quarter. I am excited about the rest of the financial year as the Aviation Group returns to full airline capacity and grows our fleet further, with the resulting ecosystem synergies for Capital A Companies.
"We are also gaining momentum in our efforts to unlock the full value of our businesses, both airline and non-airline. We recently announced the proposed divestment of our aviation business to unlock its value as a pure-play business. Next, we will submit the circular to Bursa Malaysia by June and move a step closer to resolving our PN17 status through the submission of our regularisation plan a month later.
"Capital A is the first in the world to grow from an airline into five verticals of strong aviation-led businesses. Our immediate strategy now focuses on delivering shareholder value, getting the right organisation structure, and doubling down on our low-cost DNA across the ecosystem. Additionally, we are committed to maximising ecosystem synergies to enhance our performance and create sustainable growth.
"So the next six months will be the defining period for Capital A as we execute our strategic initiatives to address challenges and seize exciting opportunities. At the end of this period, I believe we will have delivered an amazing turnaround - emerging stronger with two strong groups of businesses with immense potential and transformative value creation for our stakeholders."

*Financial skies and the melodic wings of Mr. Mister’s “Broken Wings*.” 🎵
🌟 Capital A’s Financial Flight 🌟
In the realm where balance sheets soar, Where numbers dance and profits roar, Capital A unfurls its wings, A symphony of gains, the market sings.
📈 AAX, once veiled in uncertainty’s haze, Emerges, phoenix-like, from turbulent days. Its fourth quarter, a crescendo of revival, Net profit blooms, a financial survival.
🌐 Singapore Airlines, a seasoned traveler, Navigates skies with poise, a seasoned traveler. Their net loss, once tempest-tossed and grim, Now narrows, as restrictions loosen their grip.
🎶 Mr. Mister, your “Broken Wings” echo, In boardrooms where analysts’ eyes glow. Capital A, like your wounded bird, mends, As investors await results, hearts on the mend.
🔍 Mabel Airlines, the mover of tides, Whispers secrets to the moon as it glides. And Capital A? Ah, its wingspan unfurls, A financial tale etched in market swirls.
🎩 Investors, like magicians, read the signs, In quarterly reports, they seek the divine. Will Capital A soar, or falter and sway? The answer, my friend, lies in the day.
🌠 Broken Wings, a metaphor we embrace, For stocks that stumble, then find their grace. Capital A, AAX, and Singapore’s flight, Together they dance, in financial twilight.
Note: The financial results of Capital A and AAX are real, while the poetic interpretation is a whimsical flight of fancy. 🌙✨

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia group of airlines, including medium-haul affiliate airlines AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, has bagged the Top Low-Cost Carrier in Asia for 2024 award by AirlineRatings.com in its annual Airline Excellence Awards.
The group and its affiliate medium-haul airlines have re-written the rule book for airlines in Asia and beyond, and today, we have over 255 aircraft flying to over 165 destinations
"The proposed divestment of the AirAsia Aviation Group of airlines from Capital A to AirAsia X is on track and will be a game changer in the industry to ensure significantly more high quality, low-cost air travel for short-, medium- and long-haul flights connecting Asia and the Asia Pacific to the world at the very best cost,” Tony said.
Meanwhile, AirlineRatings.com editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas said that the win was "richly deserved” as these airlines have made travel affordable for nearly 800 million passengers throughout Asia and the Asia Pacific, and they offer outstanding value and a great experience.

From Beijing with love
After a lackluster FY23A, the Chinese market drove 1Q24 results to way above our expectations. We maintain our earnings estimates pending a meeting with management. Note that we have yet to impute any upside from the upcoming acquisition of CAPITALAs 4 airlines and contribution from TAAX. We roll forward valuation, pegging on 7x FY25E PER (industry average ex-Interglobe, Spring and VietJet) from 8x FY24E PER and raise our TP to MYR1.88 from MYR1.52.
Additionally, the group is also assessing new destinations to be incorporated into its network and apart from most recently Central Asia, the group looks forward to bridging the connectivity for more regions soon.
“This tracks the group’s growth and expansion strategy, in line with its ongoing engagement with Capital A for the proposed acquisition of the latter’s aviation business, encompassing airlines such as AirAsia Malaysia Bhd and AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd which in turn includes Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia and Philippines AirAsia,” it said.

*YTL Power stock skyrocketed over sixfold in two years: how to decode its earnings*
YTL Power has been one of the top-performing stocks in the Malaysian market over the past two years. In 2023, its share price jumped 268%, and by 2024, it nearly doubled again. In less than two years, YTL Power's stock surged over sixfold, with its market value briefly surpassing RM 40 billion.
What’s behind this remarkable growth?
Core business: YTL Power’s primary revenue and profit driver is its power generation business. YTL PowerSeraya, a subsidiary in Singapore is expected to increase the revenue of YTL Power’s Singapore operations, accounting for about 1.5% of Singapore's peak electricity demand.
Potential growth areas: These include the new electricity purchase from Malaysia by YTL PowerSeraya, the new waste-to-energy plant, the EV charging station project, and the highly anticipated data center project.
At the end of 2023, YTL Power announced a partnership with NVIDIA to invest RM 20 billion in building an AI data center in Johor, Malaysia. The facility, expected to house the fastest supercomputer in Malaysia by mid-2024, could start generating revenue by the end of 2024. Additionally, the company plans to develop a large-scale solar power facility with a capacity of up to 500MW to supply the data center, representing another potential growth area.
The booming AI industry heavily relies on significant computing power, underpinned by electricity. By leveraging its core strength in power generation, YTL Power is making a strategic shift towards green energy while tapping into the AI sector's growth, unlocking strong potential growth opportunities.
Financial risks: Currently, YTL Power maintains good profitability, keeping financial risks relatively under control. However, the expansion plans mentioned above, such as new power plants, require substantial capital investments. Currently, YTL Power's debt ratio is already high. The expansion of several future projects may further increase the debt ratio, raising financial risks. Therefore, in future financial reports, it's crucial to closely monitor YTL Power's financial risk levels. If the debt ratio rises significantly while net profit does not keep pace, it may be a cause for concern.

#iscmob HLIB:
"Outlook.
Given the recent heatwave phenomenon, we expect stronger demand for power and pool prices in Singapore, benefiting PowerSeraya in 4QFY24 (similar to the occurrence in 4QFY23). Attarat continued to deliver strong contributions of RM86m in 3QFY24. We expect Attarat’s earnings to gradually improve as the associate pares down external loans (RM5.7bn as of end FY23) over the next 8 years (until 2032). Wessex will be reporting a turnaround in 4QFY24 due to the effective 12% tariff hike in Apr-24 and the subsiding impact from UK’s inflationary index. Wessex is also due to enter into a new regulatory period (2025-2030), which will provide higher allowable returns with higher asset base. YesCom is commencing on Sabah projects, which will improve its P&L in the near term, while progressing on AI-DC (total 100MW), commencing in phases starting end-2024/early-2025. The construction of YTL-DC is also progressing on schedule, with phase 1 for Sea Limited commenced operations in May-2024. Another 2 DCs (total 100MW) are under construction and expected to complete by end-2024. Earnings from DC/AI-DC is expected to be substantial from FY25 onwards and the group has a strong advantage as NVidia’s preferred partner in Malaysia for AI-Could service provider vs other DC owners (difficult and costly to convert a conventional DC to an AI-DC infrastructure).
Forecast.
Raised forecasts for FY25 by 5.2% and FY26 by 16.4% as we incorporate earnings contribution from DC and AI DC.
Maintain BUY, TP: RM7.45.
We reiterate our BUY recommendation, with a higher TP: RM7.45 (from RM5.55), based on 10% discount to FD SOP: RM8.28, as we believe the current PE valuation remains undemanding (vs Tenaga and PGas) with potential dividend upside. Upcoming earnings will be further boosted by Wessex’s turnaround and maiden DC/AI-DC contributions."

Boeing Stock Falls On Forecasts Of Negative Cash Flow, Delivery Delays
Briefly: Boeing shares traded down more than 6% today following CFO Brian West’s announcement that the company will burn cash in 2024 rather than generate it.
So Basically: Speaking at a conference today, West revealed that he expects Boeing’s full-year free cash flow to be negative, possibly to the tune of $4 billion next quarter alone.
So Then: This marked a stark contrast to the outlook provided in March for positive cash generation in the low single-digit billions.
So What: The announcement surprised investors and further complicated Boeing’s situation as it struggles with quality concerns, production challenges and delayed deliveries to China, which West added will impact Q2 cash flow.

Summing up on NVIDIA’s Q1 Earnings
Briefly: NVIDIA, the poster boy of the AI revolution, reported first-quarter results this morning after the market close. Here’s how it went.
So Basically: The chipmaker’s Q1 results climbed past lofty expectations amid ever-increasing demand for its AI accelerators. Nvidia shares pass $1,000 for first time on AI-driven sales surge Revenue $26.04 billion (up from $7.19 billion y/y) and destroying estimates of $24.69 billion. Data center revenue $22.6 billion vs. $4.28 billion y/y, smashing estimates of $21.13 billion. Nvidia shows no signs of AI slowdown after over 427% increase in data center business. Revenues climbed to a record, thanks to record Data Center revenue.
So Then: Q2 guidance also exceeded expectations. The company announced a 10-for-1 stock split and hiked its quarterly dividend by 150%. Unlike some of Patton High Growth Magnificent 7, NVIDIA has a dividend history. Before the Q1 earnings in 2024, the quarterly cash dividend was $0.04 per share. However, after the Q1 earnings, NVIDIA raised its quarterly cash dividend by 150% to $0.10 per share on a post-split basis. This increase reflects the company’s strong financial performance and commitment to rewarding shareholders
So What? Reacting to the results, Nvidia’s stock rose in after-hours trading. CEO Jensen Huang proudly punctuated the results, saying, “The next industrial revolution has begun.”
Next is YTL Power...

#Agjl Nvidia shares pass $1,000 for first time on AI-driven sales surge
PUBLISHED WED, MAY 22 202412:00 PM EDTUPDATED 23 MIN AGO

It is interesting to note that a few weeks ago at a Standford University forum, Jensen Huang opined that "people with very high expectations have very low resilience and unfortunately resilience matters in success". He also added that 'greatness'(in a company) comes from 'character' and the character is formed out of people who suffered (who has gone through setbacks, pains and sufferings).
Nvidia reported fiscal first-quarter earnings on Wednesday that beat expectations for sales and earnings, and the stock rose in extended trading over the $1,000 per-share threshold. Its strong results on Wednesday suggest that demand for the AI chips Nvidia makes remains robust.
Looking ahead, NVIDIA continues to push the boundaries of technology. Its recent ventures into autonomous vehicles and augmented reality are setting the stage for the next wave of computing. With the advent of the metaverse and other virtual platforms, NVIDIA’s technologies are becoming the building blocks of future digital experiences.
For investors and tech enthusiasts alike, NVIDIA represents a unique combination of visionary technological pursuits and solid financial health. Its story is not just about where it stands today but also about where technology can take us tomorrow. NVIDIA isn’t just participating in the future; it is actively shaping it, making its mark as one of the most innovative and financially robust companies in the tech world.

Bay of Bengal is a notorious place when you cross this sector. Mabel has experienced few times when the aircraft fall freely. One on MAS, Thais Airway, Scandinavia, and SIA...This place is really no joke. Luckily no one was hurt on our plane..
This is a very good reminder to everyone ... when in a flight, always keep your seat belt buckled even when the seat belt light is off.
It's said the passengers hit the ceiling when the plane hit the air turbulence.
In this incident, a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence over the Bay of Bengal. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft dropped approximately 6,000 feet (2,000 meters) in just a matter of minutes after crossing the Bay of Bengal. Unfortunately, one person lost their life, and several others were injured during this incident. The flight was forced to divert to Bangkok, where it landed safely.
Turbulence can be caused by various factors, including flying through clouds or encountering “clear air” turbulence, which is not visible on a jet’s weather radar and cannot be predicted. This incident highlights the importance of seatbelt usage even when the skies appear clear.
Thanks God Mabel Capital A is using only Airbus...

#paulthesotong Anything to with Privatisation of Malaysia Airport?

Here's some news paul,
https://www.straitstimes.com/business/gip-eyeing-up-to-49-stake-in-malaysian-port-operator-could-value-it-at-85-billion-sources
Yes, that’s correct! Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) is in talks to acquire up to a 49% stake in MMC Port Holdings, which is Malaysia’s largest port operator. MMC Port Holdings owns seven ports in Malaysia, including the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor Bahru. The deal could potentially value MMC Port Holdings at around RM30 billion (S$8.5 billion).
Interestingly, GIP itself is being acquired by BlackRock for US$12.5 billion. Just days after BlackRock’s announcement, US private equity firm General Atlantic also agreed to buy UK-based infrastructure investor Actis.
Recently, GIP, in partnership with Khazanah, EPF, and ADIA, announced a conditional offer to acquire a stake in Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad. This deal could potentially involve up to a 49% stake in the company, valuing it at around RM30 billion

#Alex_Kho It's essential to recognize that each airline's financial performance depends on various factors, including route networks, cost structures, and market dynamics.
1. Different Business Models:
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and AirAsia indeed operate with distinct business models. Here's a brief comparison:
- SIA: As a full-service carrier, SIA focuses on premium services, long-haul flights, and connecting major global cities. Their emphasis is on luxury, comfort, and high-quality in-flight experiences.
- AirAsia: AirAsia, on the other hand, follows a low-cost model. They prioritize affordability, point-to-point routes, and efficient operations. AirAsia aims to make air travel accessible to a broader segment of travelers.
2. Travel Recovery:
The news about Singapore Airlines' record profit reflects a positive trend for the aviation industry. By reporting a profit of S$2.67 billion for 2023-2024, SIA demonstrates that travel demand has rebounded significantly. In fact, this level of profitability suggests that travel has not only returned to pre-COVID levels but has likely exceeded them.
Both airlines contribute to the industry in their unique ways, catering to different customer segments. As travel continues to recover, there is hope to see positive outcomes for AirAsia as well. 🌏✈️
