PLEASE WEAR A MASK whenever you go out. This is to protect the others and also yourself. I am not sure who is advising the DG. He is obviously wrong here. The importance of the mask in prevention spread of virus ( droplet spread ) can easily be illustrated, with a slightly crude but effective analogy. Let say if I were to pee on you, and I am not wearing any clothes? Against me peeing on you with my undies on. Or you peeing with yr undies on? Which will give you a full dose? Which will give you a minimal dose of urine? Crude, but effective illustration, I believe. I apologise for being crude. So that you will remember to wear your mask......

I believe if a 3rd wave hit us, the main contributory factor could be that we did not make the wearing of mask compulsory outside our homes.
Mask is effective for protecting others but not the wearer from Covid-19 as it had been scientifically proven that the coronavirus transmission is through infected droplets emitted from the nostrils and mouth of a carrier. Asymptomatic and pre symptomatic carriers do not know that they are indeed carriers. A mask will limit the throw of droplets from an carrier thus making social distancing meaningful and effective. Any kind of fabric mask is far better than no mask. In fact, a mask from fabric is preferable as it could be reused after washing and drying.
Take a step back Datuk and please reconsider your stance.
Enforce this like how they do in Hong King, Singapore, China and Taiwan.
Make mask wearing outside one's home mandatory in our country and let's fight covid19 together effectively through science.

Guys...Will also tell you why people wear a mask in the car:
1. You are leaving your house. Put on the mask. And get in the car. - Its less likely you will forget to wear a mask on leaving the house.
2. In the car you continue wearing a mask for three reasons
a) You do not want to unnecessarily touch it with your hands once you have it on.
b) If you are at a road block and have to wind down your window you will protect yourself and the policeman by wearing a mask instead of forgetting or fumbling around to put it on.
c) If you take off the mask, you will have to put it somewhere in the car, potentially contaminating a surface in the car when the mask touches it.
Please DO wear a mask!

ChinaDragon , I see, it is more a hype and market sentiment.
Hospital business should be as usual.
How can private hospital profitability sky rocket due to virus, (that may result share price sky rocketing) is beyond my understanding.
Healthcare equipment, gloves mask manufacturers, pharmaceutical related, yes, as business will be good. Hospital?

Malaysians buy 1,000 illicit cigarettes a minute to avoid tax
Malaysia’s move to stub out tobacco use with higher levies has pushed smokers to the black market instead.
The Southeast Asian country has the world’s highest share of illegal tobacco sales at 59% of its market, with 1,000 illicit cigarettes bought each minute, Oxford Economics said in a report commissioned by British American Tobacco Plc.
That has cost the government 13.5 billion ringgit ($3.3 billion) of revenue in unpaid taxes since Malaysia raised excise duties on cigarettes in 2015, according to the report.
The finance ministry didn’t immediately respond to questions on the state revenue loss.
Malaysia has sought to curb smoking-related illnesses, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, which are the main causes of premature death in the country, according to the health ministry.
About 22.8% of Malaysians aged 15 or older are smokers in 2015, a slight decline from 23.1% in 2011.
BAT’s Malaysian unit has long campaigned against excise increases by warning that it would worsen the illegal tobacco trade, which the company said is a key reason for its shrinking sales volume.
Its revenue fell 3.2% in 2018 on declining sales of cigarettes and contract manufacturing after it closed a factory near the capital Kuala Lumpur.
The company’s rival Japan Tobacco Inc. shuttered its Malaysian plant in 2017 and bought stakes in Indonesian and Philippine producers that same year.
The study commissioned by BAT showed about 598 million packs in Malaysia were illegal in 2018. Nearly half of the consumption were "illicit whites” that are smuggled into the country from neighboring Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam due to cheaper prices.
Others include illegal "kretek”, or clove cigarettes, and packs with fake tax stamps. - Bloomberg

The biggest problem is contraband cigarettes. More than half of cigarettes sold in Malaysia are now smuggled, paying no tax to the government but selling as the real deal and making huge bucks.

Machang MP says will stick to principles, won’t be 'restrained' by GLC post
Being appointed to a government position will not restrain Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub from holding on to his principles.
The newly appointed Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairperson told Malaysiakini that he accepted the position to "serve the country", and not to be "bound" by others.
"I am saying sincerely, I am not restrained. If there are parties who think I could be restrained by giving me this GLC chairperson position, they are mistaken.
"[...] If they think, oh, 'Machang MP's problem is solved, we have given him a position'. This is a mistake.
"I have my own stand," he told Malaysiakini when contacted yesterday.
He did not mention any names although it is believed that his remarks were directed towards Umno's Perikatan Nasional ally Bersatu.
Despite Umno having the most federal seats among PN parties, Bersatu appeared to remain dominant, through party president Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The issue was extended to the distribution of positions among leaders from the two parties, with several Umno leaders claiming they were sidelined in Muhyiddin's cabinet.
Within Muhyiddin's cabinet, Umno leaders are said to been given portfolios with lesser responsibilities compared to Bersatu leaders who jumped from PKR, for example International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali.
The controversy also swept Sabah and Johor with party leaders demanding for GLC positions and debating the new appointments.
Commenting on his own appointment as an Umno leader, Jazlan said he will only support a government that is truly working for the country.
"Which government I am supporting, so long as I see the government is really ensuring the country's sustainability, that I can support," he said.
Jazlan has been appointed as MPOB chairperson effective April 8.
Previously, a list of rumoured Umno leaders to be appointed as GLC heads had gone viral, including party deputy president Mohamad Hasan, said to be named as Tenaga Nasional Berhad chairperson.
Mohamad, however, has since confirmed that he rejected the offer.
Aside from Mohamad, other names on the list include Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as Petronas chairperson, Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid as TM chairperson and Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman as Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairperson.
Both Mahdzir and Tajuddin, however, have said that they have yet to receive any confirmation regarding the rumoured appointments.

The confusion created by the PN government has triggered some overzealous HM's and Education officers to call teachers back to school for no rhyme or reason. This is unnecessary as it is going to create mass movement without any purpose. We are not helping with the situation. Teachers should be told to stay put where they are and continue with their home based learning till such a time when it is much safer for mass movement. Useless government sending confusing signals.

PKR did not sack Edmund Santhara on his birthday on April 3, said party communications director Fahmi Fadzil.
He instead left the party earlier on Feb 24, said Fahmi
In a posting on his official Twitter account this morning, the Lembah Pantai MP dismissed the claim by the deputy federal territories minister Santhara that party president Anwar Ibrahim handed a dismissal letter to him (Santhara) on the day
PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail claims that the party is in the process of collecting the RM10mil in penalty imposed against anyone abandoning the party.
He said the matter is being dealt with by the PKR treasurer.
“We are in the process of getting those who defected to pay up," Saifuddin told reporters after a farewell do at the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, where he has served as minister for 21 months.
In 2018, all PKR candidates for the 14th General Election signed a legal document to prevent them from defecting to another party.
The signing of the legal document, which will see elected representatives fined RM10mil should they defect to another party - has been a practice within PKR.
Among those who may have to pay up is Johor’s Pemanis assemblyman Dr Chong Fat Full, who announced his exit from PKR and stated his allegiance to the new state coalition government.
He was among 10 state exco members, who were sworn before the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar earlier on Friday (March 6).
Several PKR lawmakers, who left the party after its deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin were sacked, may also have to pay the RM10mil penalty.
Saifuddin, who is also Pakatan Harapan secretary-general, said it was not game over for the coalition.
“We have a few things in our line-up, which we will announce from time to time, ” he said
Asked if this included bringing up the motion of no-confidence against the Prime Minister in the Parliament, Saifuddin replied in the affirmative.

If he is really doing that while the MCO is ongoing and mass gathering (street protest) is forbidden, then we all know he is abusing the Covid-19 situation for his own personal interest!
Forming a new party which nobody has voted, but that have directly power to control, rule and suppress the people of Malaysia should be regarded as an illegal action!
We need a new election to ensure the people can decide who should be the legal government.

RevenueQueenie, Sentencing is not the prerogative of AGC. Prosecuting is their responsibility as you rightly mention.
2020-04-27 15:31 | Report Abuse
1. AGC's role is to prosecute on a case to case basis based on investigation papers supplied by the police
2. AGC cannot initiate prosecution without complete/actionable investigation papers by police. If an incident is reported in the media but police has not been quick to investigate and supply the papers to AGC, then the case cannot proceed.
3. AGC then vigorously prosecutes the case in court, subject to any plea bargaining by defence. AGC seeks to maximise punishment or bail in line with the law and severity of the case. It does not mitigate the accused's action as that is up to the accused counsel to do so and neither does it overstep into adjudicating the matter before the court.
4. The sentencing is done by the courts/justices/magistrates and beyond the AGC's purview
5. There is an internal mechanism that happens within AG's chambers to monitor on prosecution of offences. AG denies there is any over zealous prosecution or activism or selective prosecution based on its role in the process
6. In short Mr AG is saying, I don't own the whole process. Indirectly, he is implying De Facto Law Minister, Chief Justice, Home Minister, IGP all have to do their part
Mr AG, we don't just bark at you like the raving hordes that were barking at your predecessor...
They say you are a decent man....now it's time for you to be an effective and proactive AG....engage the public,

No point saying there are guidelines and then leaving it like that. The issue is the discrepancy in treatment, not the guidelines. It is justice in substance over just mere form. Surely as AG you will appreciate that. This is the essence of the Rule of Law. As AG it is your duty to defend this!
2020-04-27 15:01 | Report Abuse
(a) The guidelines were followed or not.
(b) If the guidelines were not followed then what is the action to be taken to avoid this. Discipline the DPP? Publicly announce this guidelines? Discuss with the CJ so that even if the DPP goes off on a frolic of his/her own the Judge hopefully will rein it in.
(c) If the guidelines were followed, then in view of the obvious discrepancies then whether steps will be or have been urgently taken to rectify the same.
