for once today the CW esp CF seems to be acting independently of mother share price. hmmm interesting

dr sam may be i shud say "free float" instead of liquidity...thanks for hightlighting. syndicate is different they use "churn" i.e recycle same number of shares over and over again. market makers only exist in malaysia for CW as bank issue it for their own behalf and not company. normal shares, bank dont act as market makers but they proprietary trade which is not market making. have to get correct term nanti ppl who is not clever like me get confused

noted on everyone opinion but for european style cash settled warrant (different from American style warrant)the CW issuers do not hedge in order to profit on the upside. i.e they buy mother share low and sell mother share high

Their intent is always to keep mother price low irregardless. they have no interest to profit on the high price of the mother.

It all depends on how strong the major shareholder is willing to fight. They will still need the same amount of money theoretically as the share price is doubled corresponding to say 2 to 1 split

Liquidity got nothing to do with it. Look for example at BIMB case recently. BIMB is relatively illiquid but when BIMB-CB about to expire, the illiquidness made it easier to push down if there is not a strong push factor

Stock

reverse stock split in itself doesnt change anything about the mother except reducing the liquidity. an illiquid share can work both ways, easier to push up but also easier to push down. mother financial fundamentals does not change. the push factor to buy reamins the same

whatever happen to mother eg reverse split, bonus issue, etc etc sons conversion terms or even numbers of shares/liquidity will also be adjusted accordingly

it still depend on how far people is willing to push the share price of the mother irregardless of reverse split or bonus issue.

a better push factor to buy the mother is either a large dividend or priviatisation at big premium

like i said, if my understanding is wrong please feel free to correct me

if i am the majority shareholder of JCY that is what i will do..take it private... i controlled 74% already anyway and already facing difficulty with bursa public spread requirement.

Plus I got all these CW issuers taking advantage and depressing my share price with no benefit to me.

I will privatise and probably relist in HK or Singapore both of which will give me better market valuations PE wise

Mr Lamken? any chance of JCY being taken private? delisted? is that what you meant by " the cowboys strangle hold on this counter will be over"

FCTB, what Lamken said was not entirely wrong or entirely correct. I believe European style call warrants i.e cash settled is still misunderstood by a lot of people. Nevertheless any information is good for people to digest. Right or wrong is for the readers themselves to decide. Even unintentinoally incorrect information can be educational

First of all you need to understand how the issuers make money from the CW. 1st stage - they need you to buy the CW. 2nd stage - they have to make sure by the end of the CW term they do not have to pay you.

We are at the stage where the issuers need to create peak and troughs to bait people to buy the CW. The churning process. Not easy and costly to churn if price is up all the way.

Hedging mechanism (controlling the price)can be done 2 ways, either via mother - buy and sell to control mother or via sons -buy and sell to control the CW and it is not necessarily a direct relationship between mother and sons at this stage.

while i look at the general world and malaysian market economic situation for my main investment decision, it is worthwhile to keep an eye for specific counter in being in play...for duit kopi mah not for main investments. case in hand was permaju recently. if you just flow with the motion, not greedy and exit before the main player, you should be ok to cover your overheads like starbucks coffee, broadband connection, duit rokok.....day trading expenses for a mobile trader : )

Main investments should be based on micro and macro economics!!

Be cautious everyone. For the CW issuers to make money they have to sell the CW they have issued to other people. Hence their strategy of pressing and popping the share price of mother and sons. This is all about baiting to make sure the can sell all the CW from their book to other buyers i.e us. Timing is everything, make sure you know when to exit. Have to beat them at their own game

2nd quarter should be meet or exceed analyst expectations. could be some of the cw-issuers pressing the share price down as pre-emptive strike to the good 2nd quarter result. if they did not and let price be ar 1.60, once 2nd qurter result is out, and price jump 20-30 sen, the cw's will be in the money and will be harder for them to control. they do not want that to happen.

if you think about it, has there ever been a single cw in the whole of bursa that was in the money by the time of the expiry date? 1 or 2 if not none at all.

all this cw is what is so wrong about the global financial markets these days. it does not add any economic value at all except for the sissuers and bursa.

Not MBSB vs BIMB. MBSB+BIMB sounds better

Stock

2012-05-08 12:19 | Report Abuse

Think about it. Both BIMB and MBSB need to scale up to compete. Both already syariah compliant Islamic banking. MBSB can cross sell Takaful Malaysia insurance products. Very little overlap in term of business & branches. Very nice fit if BIMB merge with MBSB

Stock

2012-05-08 11:45 | Report Abuse

Could be EPF building a stake in BIMB to merge BIMB with MBSB. That will put a rocket under both.....how is that for speculation hahaha

Stock

2012-05-03 15:13 | Report Abuse

for the sake of killing ime at the office...i'm bored now hahaha...for JCY-CG, the issuer increased the number of issued call warrants by 100% a few trading days after it first was listed under the pretext of " for market making"..what a con haha

Stock

2012-05-03 15:09 | Report Abuse

that is the nature of the beast but atleast the so called "market makers" should ensure it goes up and down on the same quantum relative to mum after taking into account the premium involved IMHO

Stock

2012-05-03 14:56 | Report Abuse

when mum goes up anak never will rise as much, when mum goes down anak will go down b the same amount.....generally speaking for call warrants, anyone noticed the same?

Stock

2012-05-02 10:48 | Report Abuse

I just hope the major shareholder of JCY is aware of the Porsche-VW short squeeze in 2008. They should adopt the same strategy. Just get Goldman Sach to participate.

Stock

2012-05-02 10:39 | Report Abuse

I wonder how long JCY majority shareholders will tolerate the CW issuers acitivities to press the share price down

It seems the CW issuers keep blocking at 1.60...for obvious reasons
