AS crude oil prices remain under pressure, national oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is pushing for a consolidation in the offshore support vessel (OSV) segment.

Interestingly enough, one of the proposals being discussed is a “Proposed Malaysian OSV Private Business Unit Trust Structure” (see chart).

These plans were highlighted in an online industry dialogue late last month with local oil and gas players comprising members of the Malaysia Offshore Support Vessels Association, the Malaysia Offshore Contractors Association and Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Council.

At the dialogue, Petronas president and CEO Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin was said to have painted a bleak picture for the sector.

In a presentation deck viewed by The Edge, Petronas highlights the current situation of the OSV industry as “being plagued by depressed charter rates, oversupply leading to increased competition, the sector being fragmented, players facing a liquidity crunch with banks holding on to loans that are stressed with covenant breaches, collateral values underwater, leading to possible defaults even”.

“Consolidation — the only way out?” the deck reads, before going into the private business trust structure.

Petronas says unitholders of the planned business trust “can participate in the profits or income arising from the management of the assets in the business trust through receipt of distributions declared by the trustee manager”.

i predict oil will touch 40usd next month (i was right when predict oil touch 30usd month ago)

oil price crisis begin in end mar, so covid-19 effect est around 20% in the Q3

from apr till now and maybe june, where oil price hits bottom and remain below 40, we can tell that next qtr will post decrease profit >50% since ave selling price fall between 20-40usd

prediction alam will post loss coming quarter but if rpt out when oil price up, might will help to sustain price

i will buy after qtr rpt out for safety buying, 18c and below

i share what may be good, like i share alam when it was 9c before shoot to 18c last year, some people read and follow (its their decision anyway), they make money out of it

even if mother drop again from rm1 to 80c, upon conversion still makes money

not a dispute o&g can gives you return for long term, oil will not remain low forever, thats why for long term holder no need to worry the volatility

but the high volatility is an opportunity to gain money over and over again in each cycle, of course it comes with risk, need to have experience and focus on market trend and timing

thats why when sell, dont sell all and when buy dont buy all, and always keep cash with u all the times

inari is big player semi con, notion is not semi con, its a precision manufacturer like dufu

dufu has been outstanding, notion need to show consistent result to be like it and dufu dont need to do healthcare, thats the difference

i predict this time it will drop below 20c, possibly till 18c and if during out oil price drop might till 16 or 15 range

but if during release oil stand above 35, things may different

armada coming qtr will be bad esp on the OMS segment, so dont bet on qtr result

once out, it will drop further like it did when at above 40c till 30c in the prev qtr b4 market crash

the possibility to be red is high, i sold bcoz dont want to take risk, play safe better

alam will back to 7.5 if quarter red again
