RESEARCH and development (R&D) incubator, Asia Bioenergy Technologies Bhd (AsiaBio), has developed a new microbial supplement for the rapid growth of plants, in a bid to curb the country’s over-reliance on food imports.

The supplement, called the “Plant ProBiotic Tumbuhan 2 in 1” (ProBiotic), which took two years to develop, has been proven to promote the growth of plant.

Treated plants show significant improvement nutrient absorption rate and have better root development. The supplement also improves soil conditions and helps get rid of antagonistic bacteria while improving yields and crop quality.

For the last two years, AsiaBio has been using ProBiotic on padi fields belonging to Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) Kampung Pelet and PPK Lahar Bubur, both in Penang, and the results have been significant.

“We used ProBiotic in Lahar Bubur in the first half of last year and not only did we manage to increase the yields by 108 per cent, the padi matured a month faster, meaning quicker harvest time and bigger profit,” said AsiaBio executive director Looi Kem Loong.

Experiments in different parts of the country have shown similar results, with Kampung Rama in Perlis registering an 88 per cent increase in yields — from 4,440kg of harvested crop to 8,300kg the following season.

“We see this technology as the way of the future and we intend to introduce this product to more farmers and food producers. It will help Malaysia’s food production in the long run,” said Steve Tan, who is also an AsiaBio executive director.

The firm has a lone production line at its Penang factory and is able to produce up to 1.5 tonnes of ProBiotic a month. It is looking to add four more production lines within 36 months.

“We have RM42 million worth of funds, so funding the production line is not an issue. The issue is in finding the markets for the supplement,” said Looi, adding that the firm intends to market its products domestically.

“Right now, we are looking at ways of getting promotional backing from the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry and the National Farmers Organisation, but this may take a while.”

Nextnation stake sale poser, Al Batha becomes substantial stakeholder with office tower deal
Wednesday, 10 April 2013
By: WONG WEI-SHEN

PETALING JAYA: Sharjah-based Al Batha group's most recent deal where the diversified conglomerate is taking a 22.69% stake in ACE Market-listed Nextnation Communication Bhd raises some questions.

While Nextnation's plans to diversify into property development is not new, the deal struck by Nextnation and Al Batha on Monday in which the former pays for an 11-storey boutique office tower in Bangsar South City, Kuala Lumpur by the issuance of 192 million new shares at 30 sen each to the latter have raised some eyebrows.

The purchase consideration of the office tower for RM64mil from Al Batha's unit Bidang Lagenda Sdn Bhd, also includes 120 million free 10-year detachable warrants with an exercise price of 35 sen, and RM6.4mil in cash.

Via the issuance of shares, Al Batha has become a substantial shareholder in the company with a 22.69% stake. What is interesting is that if Al Batha chooses to exercise the warrants that come with the deal, then it could potentially hold 32.3% stake, which would come close to the mandatory general offer threshold.

TA Securities said in a report that it was negative on the acquisition as it might result in slight negative earnings accretion for the financial year ending April 30, 2014, before it turns positive in 2015.

Al Batha is a UAE-based investor, and has a 40% stake in Al Batha Bukit Kiara, a joint venture (JV) that includes Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd, once a wholly owned unit of Bukit Kiara Capital Sdn Bhd, which in turns holds the remainder 60% of the JV.

“We are alarmed that Nextnation is currently on an equity fund-raising streak with a series of corporate exercises that would have raised over RM247mil in a period spanning less than a year,” TA analysts said.

This is assuming that the warrants are fully converted and the proposed exercises within the financial year have been completed. The exercises include last year's bonus issue of warrants which would bring in RM4.6mil in proceeds. Also, a 30% private placement worth RM37.3mil was put out in July last year. Earlier in March 2013, the company proposed a rights issue valued at RM99.3mil. An additional proposed 10% private placement for RM5.9mil was proposed in April this year.

The total funds that could be raised are significantly higher than its current market capital of RM75.21mil as of yesterday. TA analysts note that Nextnation's plan to relocate its current headquarters to the new office contradicts its initial plan to move to its new office tower in Cyberjaya, which is still in its preliminary stage of planning.

Although the research house is negative on the deal, it acknowledges that the new shares issued to Bidang Lagenda are at about 160% premium to its current share price. Yesterday, the stock rallied on news of the acquisition. The counter picked up 1 sen to 11.5 sen, representing a 9.52% rise. At market close, there were 46.3 million shares done, and was the most actively traded stock of the day.

While Nextnation is primarily an investment holding company, its subsidiaries are involved in programming services, software development, Internet consulting and provision of information technology (IT) services.

TA said it was concerned that the company was stretching its capabilities with diverse ventures outside its core expertise in IT services. “We are concerned that Nextnation will face project execution and investment risks, and increased staff costs from its new ventures into property development and investment,” it added.

LONDON – Salamander Energy says the converted Suksan Salamander FSO has entered service on the Bualuang field in the B8/38 concession in the Gulf of Thailand.
Use of this vessel, which replaces an FPSO (currently preparing to leave the field), along with new power and processing modules, should bring operating cost savings of up to $25 million/yr, Salamander claims.
The company continues planning and design work for a third platform (Bualuang Charlie) to develop newly identified resources and will submit a program for sanction later this year.
During the first half of this year, 10 development wells were completed from the Bravo platform following the 11 drilled in 2013. As 16 slots were already in use, four more were added to the well bay and three have already been used to increase the number of producing wells.
This year’s intake has been conventional horizontal wells in the T4 and T2 reservoirs in both the main field and the East Terrace. Salamander says production in the East Terrace in particular has benefited with lower water cuts and higher well deliverability.
The company now plans to drill various dual lateral production wells with a view to increase the number of production drain points per slot. The first of these wells has just been completed and is entering production.
Salamander adds that it has identified a new exploration prospect, the Southern Culmination, south of the East Terrace, which it aims to drill during the fall

SONA Traded at <10x FY15 P/E and 31% significant discount to our fair value of RM0.79 per share…The acquisition is NPV accretive and we estimate the company to trade at attractive <10x FY15P/E. Upcoming approval from SC and shareholders will help to narrow the discount to fair value with immediate catalyst of 2P reserves upgrades in 4Q14. As comparison, Hibiscus share price has increased by 156% since the date of announcement of QA acquisition until shareholder approval.

This time is different, if QA is gazetted by SC, brokerage firms will assess and put a TARGET price.
Pre-evaluation from brokerage has hit around 80 cents for Sona Fair Value.

" In a note to clients last Friday, a local brokerage attributed a fair value for Sona’s shares of between 80 sen and 84 sen based on discounted cash flows of the company post its qualified acquisition of the Salamander asset."

KUALA LUMPUR: Global resources equities, namely equities and equity-related investments of companies involved in resources industries or sectors such as oil, gas and mining, are expected to register growth between 8% and 10% this year, buoyed by robust demand for energy-related resources, AmInvest retail and retirement funds senior vice president Ng Chze How said.

"It (global resources equities) will continue to grow because of the demand. We foresee stable commodities prices if not higher, so that (it) would benefit equities in terms of corporate earnings, margins and revenue," he told a press conference on the opportunities in global resources equities.

He added that on-going market concern over geopolitical risks has always been a good supporting factor for global resources equities.
