....this is positive bcos CIMB has said NIM compression is higher than expected during the sell side briefying few days ago

PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara Malaysia has resumed monetary tightening after raising the overnight policy rate (OPR) by 25 basis points (bps) to 3% following its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting today.

The ceiling and floor rates of the corridor of the OPR are correspondingly increased to 3.25% and 2.75%, respectively, BNM said in a statement today.

Without prosperity tax and a projected 4% growth in Malaysia's economy this year, Maybank's full year earnings should improve to at least 70 sen a share.

Management highlighted in their AGM today that Net profit for FY2022 would have increased 12.9% instead of 1.7% YOY if there was no cukai makmur last year......do homework for this year projection :)

I heard one uncle said one of the reason he chose PBB over MBB is because of poor customer service at MBB........

PETALING JAYA: Forbes has partnered with market research firm Statista to collect customer feedback in order to uncover the world’s best banks in 2023.

According to the survey, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) claimed the top spot for the best bank in Malaysia, followed by United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Standard Chartered in third place. Singaporean OCBC and New York-based Citibank claimed fourth and fifth place respectively.

Statista surveyed more than 48,000 customers in 14 languages and 32 countries for their opinions on their current and former banking relationships.

Banks were rated on customers’ general satisfaction (30% of the final score) and whether they would recommend the bank (30%).

The final 40% came from customer ratings in five key areas: trust, terms and conditions, digital services, customer services and financial advice.

KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): Maybank Islamic Bhd, which managed assets under management (AUM) of about RM65.2 billion for 60,000 clients under its Islamic Wealth Management (IWM) division as at February this year, aims to expand the client base to 100,000 in two years.

He said since its launch in June 2021, the IWM service had seen an encouraging growth of about 20% to 30% in AUM year-on-year, which typically includes deposits, investments and takaful.

@jeffchan1901, yes PBB growth potential is not as good as the regional banks like MBB n CIMB but they have the best asset quality.
....EPF always try to act like a stabilizing force.....they will sell when their holding goes up too fast and buy to cushion the fall when there is selling pressure....
....lately, they have been taking some profit on MBB while ASB has been accumulating....and buying this one due to persistent selling pressure.

They also hold quite substantial PBB......

ASB holds 3.844B MBB shares worth RM33.44b at current price..

I suspect fixed income fund like ASB and ASM are switching to higher dividend yield stock....as a long term fixed income fund, dividend is more important than capital appreciation.....there is more certainty if one is buying for dividend than capital appreciation esp. in the current weak market.

Another wave of selling, if 2.00 support is broken then will be tsunami.....

It's a good dividend play....but due it's high price, yield currently is lower than MBB.

No other banks dropped this much today, probably insiders were selling on bad news......

Volume today higher than usual, the sellers must know something that other investors don't know yet.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): Rakuten Trade said it will not be surprised if foreign funds make a U-turn back into the Asia market over the next couple of months, amid the erratic US market and the recent banking debacle.

Rakuten Trade head of research Kenny Yee said that investors are getting more risk-averse, seeing that the volatility in the US and Europe is increasing, and will shift their attention back to Asia, which they have been ignoring since the 2020 pandemic period.

“With their abundance of liquidity, they have been comfortable trading within their own market, but now with high risks there, I think they have no choice but to start looking at Asia again,” Yee said in the firm’s virtual media briefing on Friday (March 17) regarding Malaysia's second-quarter market outlook.

“There will certainly be a realignment of their portfolios. Some foreign funds will look to diversify their portfolios, especially for the financial sector. I think they are selling Western banks to look at Asia banks which, I say, are more stable and better capitalised.”
