in flow to utilities (RM197.0 million)
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 25): Foreign buying of Malaysian equities swelled to RM550.9 million last week, which was 2.3 times higher than RM235.1 million the prior week.
In its weekly fund flow on Monday (Sept 25), MIDF Research said it was the highest net foreign inflow over the past eight weeks.
“They were net buyers every day last week, registering net purchases of over RM100 million daily except last Thursday (Sept 21) when the amount moderated to RM48.7 million after the Fed’s second skip of the year.
“The top three sectors that posted the highest net foreign inflows were utilities (RM197.0 million), transportation and logistics (RM110.1 million) and consumer products and services (RM72.8 million),” it said.
Meanwhile, MIDF said the only three sectors with net foreign outflows were industrial products and services (RM38.6 million), healthcare (RM37.5 million) and telecommunication and media (RM8.4 million).
The research house said that year-to-date, foreign investors have been net sellers, amounting to RM1.92 billion.
MIDF said local institutions maintained their net selling stance last week at RM472.5 million, which was the highest since a year ago during the week ended Aug 19, 2022 when they net sold RM675.9 million.
“They have been net sellers every day of the week, with a net selling streak of eight days.
“Year-to-date, local institutions have been net buyers totalling RM2.68 billion," it said.
MIDF said local retailers continued to net sell for the 11th straight week after disposing of RM78.4 million net last week.
It said the net selling trend has not been seen in recent years.
It said they net bought RM22.3 million last Thursday but were net sellers for the rest of the week.
“Year-to-date, retailers have net sold RM765.7 million.
“In terms of participation, there was a decrease in average daily trading volume (ADTV) among foreign investors by 39.9% last week while local retailers saw increase of 16.0% and local institutions registered a rise of 14.0%,” it said.

RM105 Millions into utilities counter, guess which counter.
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Foreign investors snapped their three-week selling streak of Malaysian equities with a net purchase of RM235.1 million last week, from net selling of RM27.7 million the prior week.
In its weekly fund flow report on Monday, MIDF Research said that year-to-date, foreign investors have been net sellers of domestic equities at a rate of RM2.47 billion.
“The top three sectors with net foreign inflows last week were utilities (RM105.5 million), construction (RM53.6 million) and plantation (RM49.9 million).
“Meanwhile, sectors with net foreign outflows were healthcare (RM50.5 million), REITs (RM50 million) and consumer products and services (RM22.4 million),” it said.
MIDF said local institutions concluded their four-week net buying streak by selling RM131.5 million last week.
It said that year-to-date, local institutions have netted RM3.16 billion in inflows.
“For the 10th consecutive week, local retailers continued to sell domestic equities, with net sales amounting to RM103.7 million last week.
“Year-to-date, local retailers have seen outflows of RM687.3 million,” it said.
MIDF said in terms of participation, there was a decrease in average daily trading volume by retail investors (12.9%) and local institutions (9.6%), while foreign investors saw an increase (68.5%).
Commenting on the international scene, MIDF said global indices largely concluded the week with gains, disregarding the recent stronger-than-anticipated US economic data, including the August 2023 inflation figures, as investors expected these developments to have a limited impact on the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy decision.
“Out of the 20 major indices in our tracking, 13 saw gains last week. The UK’s FTSE 100 (3.12%) had the largest increase, followed by Japan’s Nikkei 225 (2.84%) and Singapore’s Straits Times (2.27%).
“The most significant decliners were the Philippines’ PSEi (1.55%), Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh VSE (1.14%) and China’s Shenzhen CSI 300 (0.83%).
“The FBM KLCI ended slightly higher by 0.28%,” it said.

@dragon328 i check it thru the 92,838,300 shares transacted at 4:50pm was not direct business transactions. Usually it will flag on the same day under direct business transaction. Will check again Monday, for FTSE Global Equity Index Series Asia Pacific ex Japan ex China inclusion liquidities and free float are two of the criteria to sustain it as well. I think for YTL Power is more of the free float issue. in AR2022, Top 30 shareholder hold about 86.32% of the company, Yeoh's hold 65.48% direct or indirectly, maybe today move will address the free float issues that might come up later. I am guessing only.

@OTB I prefer to do the price projections to take into consideration of the number of shares. Here are some findings. 2010 data is based on your adjusted price.
Year PAT #Share(B) Price Market Cap(B) P/E
2010 1.211 7.195 1.43 10.29 8.50
2023 2.022 8.158 $2.13 17.38 8.59
2024 3.000 8.158 $2.94 24.00 8.00
2024 3.000 8.158 $3.31 27.00 9.00
2024 3.000 8.158 $3.68 30.00 10.00
2024 3.000 8.158 $4.05 33.00 11.00
2024 3.000 8.158 $4.41 36.00 12.00
Current PE based on unaudited 4Q results is 8.59. If 2024 can get 3B PAT, there are high chance it will be traded at FPE of 8.0 to 10.00. or the share will be around RM3.1x to RM3.6x. from 2.13 to 3.1x there are still forty over percent gain in 1 year. Just need to monitor it Q to Q and buy on dip. This will make more sense than just compare PAT without taking considerations of NOSI.

JAKARTA (Sept 8): Singapore's Energy Market Authority has given conditional approval for the import of two gigawatts of low-carbon electricity from a solar power project in Indonesia, a Cabinet minister said on Friday.
Singapore and Indonesia will soon sign a memorandum of understanding for the import, Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry Tan See Leng told a forum in Jakarta on sustainability.
"Singapore's target is to import four gigawatts of low-carbon electricity by 2035. The fact that half of this would come from Indonesia is testament to our comprehensive and our long-standing partnership," said Tan.
The two gigawatts of power supply will be sourced from projects developed by five Indonesian and Singaporean companies, which collectively have proposed to install about 11 gigawatt-peak of solar photovoltaic capacity and 21 gigawatts of battery storage capacity in Indonesia, he added.
Indonesia's Deputy Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Rachmat Kaimuddin said he hopes such cooperation with Singapore would boost Indonesia's solar panel industry.
Indonesia has pushed back to 2025 its requirement for 60% of components of solar panels to be made locally, a measure aimed at encouraging further investment.
